I wrote about my passion for fishing. is this a good topic? I haven’t entered in any fishing contest or anything. I just like to fish, there’s isn’t really any practical value.

Did you develop anything out of fishing? like personal values, perspectives to things?

Here, if you’re in doubt about basing the entire essay about fishing, you could always use fishing as a metaphor for some other issue in your life, thus incorporating two important things to you in one.

This sounds like it could work for you. The main idea imo is to be personal, detailed, honest and revealing. In showing your passion for fishing, you’ll probably end up showing something of yourself. It does have to be a blunt, “From fishing I learned…”. Better if it’s not! At the end of the essay, though, the reader will, it is hoped, know rather more about you.
