I am a fan of the Fiske guide, and was wondering how often the “pens” rating is updated. Has anyone seen any of the ratings change over the years?
(we could digress into discussing the value of the pen rating, but I was hoping to see if any changes ever were noted over time. I could have sworn I saw Macalester go from a 4 to a 4.5?)
I’m a huge fan of Fiske, and the pens in particular! I’m not sure how often they update those, but one thing you can do, depending on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go, is to digitally check out an older copy from the Internet Archive. (I took a look at 2018’s copy, and Macalester had 4.5 then, so you might start from there!)
There’s also this older thread on Fiske pens that might be interesting, and might give you some data to compare against a more recent copy.

If I recall that thread, it’s where the pens were a little beat up over the author’s spouse being a Duke prof as an explanation for Vandy/Emory’s rating.

I agree. Emory academics are under-rated in Fisk. Good guide otherwise though
