Fit for Comp Sci DD and Mudd

For Thursday - yes!

For Friday - just to be clear, I don’t think it makes sense to go to all of those classes… Just trying to figure out which ones might make sense. It sounds like a “no” for the engineering practicum.

@intparent - on the admissions website, it says something like “feel free to attend classes. Here are all our classes. No need to get prior permission.” But of course checking in is probably a good idea.

Not really a Mudd thing specifically, but we found it best to check with the prof ahead of time when our kids sat in on classes. Does your kid have an interest in any of the other 5Cs? You might want to use that second day for a tour at Scripps or Pomona. Or go over to CalTech. One day and 1-2 classes should be enough to get a flavor for Mudd.

Yes, I understood that. And I agree with intparent, you may want to check out the other 5C’s or Caltech on Friday.

Thursday evening you may want to check out the surrounding area. Head into Claremont Village it’s a lovely downtown area.

Any comments / wisdom about Caltech vs Harvey Mudd? Isn’t caltech even harder to get into than Mudd?

Yes, it is a reach. My kid found it interesting to tour, but didn’t apply. She preferred Mudd because she does love the humanities as well as STEM. But one of the other 5Cs might suit.

Yes, Caltech is harder to get into but CS at Caltech is very theoretical so this is something to consider. After attending admitted students days and talking to CS majors at both schools my CS major DD ranked CS at HMC above CS at Caltech. But again this is all about personal fit. Caltech admission is very GPA / test oriented.

So we’re heading out there tomorrow night.

Does anyone have a child there that might be willing to have lunch with my daughter (and optionally me) on Thursday? I’m buying! We have a tour that ends at noon, and then her interview is at 2pm, so somewhere in that range.

If so, send me a PM… Thanks!

Planning to go to intro to CS momentarily. Then maybe intro to bio and cs at 9:35…
