fitness centers

What are the ones at Maryland like? I’ve visited some schools with really amazing gyms and while its definitely not one of the main things I’m looking for in a college, its definitely an amenity I’d be using.

they have pretty much all the equipment you could look for, but it’s really crowded at peak hours. You’ll have to go at certain times for the machines to be available.

@ a778999: And those certain times are?

I would say the CRC is pretty amazing. Two-story weight room, a ton of cardio machines, indoor jogging track, basketball and racquetball courts, two pools. Plus it looks nice-- all glass and built fairly recently. I don’t use it much so I don’t know about crowded times.

Ritchie is a much smaller gym by Fraternity Row and is mostly used by students in fraternities and sororities because of its proximity. It’s always very crowded (except Monday evenings when everyone has chapter meeting) and much smaller and older.

The CRC is usually crowded from like 4-6, when most people are done with classes.

With that said, the CRC is amazing. You can rent equipment for free there (balls, rackets, etc.) and the smoothies are awesome. I’ve been wont to walking in there in jeans and flip flops just to get a smoothie.

thursdays during the day and friday and saturday nights (if you’re willing to give up going out)

@ a778999: Just three days a week? I have to work out everyday!

There are times every day when you can go to the gym and not have to worry about crowds. Just avoid it from like 4-6.

i would think early morning would be pretty empty, seeing as most college students don’t function properly before around 11 am :)
