As you can see, another profitable run this morning! Today was the best feeling workout that I’ve had in awhile. Run was good. Bike was fine, and my leg workout was really good too. Not much else to say, but that’s two days down on my new program/12 weeks of tightening up.
2 days down, $5 richer!!!
Alarm went off at 5:40am again as today was a return to work - this time of year that means I head upstairs to the loft for 30ish minutes of some type of video exercise, shower and then walk the dog for a mile before jumping in the car while it’s STILL currently darkish to get to work.
Oh, I well recall how that first day back can be tough. Good for you on the 5:40am start.
Got on the treadmill for a 2.5 mile run/walk. It’s getting colder here and I’m sure we will get some snow soon, so I need to just accept the reality of the treadmill.
I have been mindfully eating better, avoiding sweets and drinking a lot of water, too.
In the interest of increasing the amount of weight I use at the gym, have been pushing so I hit failure at 8-10 reps.
Have slowly inched up on calf press - got to 210 lbs a few days ago! Pretty happy!
Not sure if should be a Fitness update or a Brag, but it pleases me…
After a few years watching A1C near above above the 5.7 start of pre-diabetic range (last year 5.8)…. down to 5.4. My PCP was not overly concerned, but his backup who did my physical in 2019 had referred me to a specialist for 5.7 reading. I opted to instead consult a nutritionalist and improve my diet. At that point I had already been running a few year and have continued.
Cholesterol results in now too. They are back up again, perhaps due to the holidays. The PCP likely won’t be overly concerned due to the ratio - my family (Dad 96, Mom lived to 89) tends toward high HDL. Total = 238, LDL=128, HDL=94, Trigly=64.
I have slightly high cholesterol, and because I’m so healthy otherwise and have high “good” number, my doc doesn’t worry about it.
Week 1 of workouts is done! I really like the first month of workouts. We repeat one week 4 times, then a complete new format for the next 4, and then another set the last 4. I think the second upper body day might have been my favorite.
And I am happy I got in my run! They were forecasting snow and/or ice starting at 4am. When I got up, it sounded some pretty stready rain, but I got up anyway. By the time I got out there, it has died down to nothing. It starter up lightly toward the end, but nothing terrible. And it was 32 but the roads didn’t get slick. I was thankful. And I went 10 miles!
Then I finished with abs and a mobility video from my last program. I really loved those and there are 12 of them. They will be my Saturday workout after the run.
Now to make waffles for the kids. Younger s’ GF’s mom gave us a nice mix from their state along with real syrup from up there too.
I’ve lost two of the 4.5 pounds I gained over the holidays. Interesting how easily the first couple of pouds come off these days. I know what to do, but over the holidays I chose not to do it!
Got a run in yesterday and might do it today, too. Felt good.
Oh, and dh got something from TJ Maxx for Christmas, but when he went to exchange it he was overwhelmed and just gave me the gift card so I used it yesterday on two new sports bras. I LOVE a new sports bra. Says medium support so let’s see whether they are good for runs.
You’re a bad a_s! 10 miles + videos and you’re getting waffles on the table!!!
Glad you got your run in. I was just reading a little about “mobility” videos - what exactly does that mean? Can you give an example?
Win win! I’ve gotten many sports bras there or Sierra Trading Post (same family of stores) has TONS. I want to try and focus on getting more with clasps rather than pulling over head - those are torture!
Also got my first run of the year in this morning and put on a fresh new pair of shoes to kick it off right.
Good week of soccer and I took a baby step on Thursday. Rather than driving to a diner for breakfast, I walked to another place and just got a bagel.
I’ve been having an issue with my arm for over a year (when I do a throw in soccer, I get hit by a blast of searing pain). I’m finally going to the Dr about it on Monday.
Do you think it’s a shoulder issue?
Flexibility - actively moving the muscle through its range of motion
Mobility - actively moving the joint through its range of motion.
You caught me. He explained the difference in today’s week 1 video, but I didn’t pay attention. I went back and listened lol.
The exercises are sort of hard to describe. Many are yoga like, others are more like dynamic stretching
I’ll look up some videos some time. I was reading that it was a good thing to add for those of us who are older!
I think it is something in the muscle in the upper arm
Do you get it when you lift your arms over your head to get a shirt off? I’ve had some of that in one arm and have been babying it a bit to try and remedy.
No-- it only happens when I do a throwing motion or carry my grandson
Because I knew you all were curious, the bra did its job.
I decided to do the first mile as a 12-minute mile, which at this point is fast for me. Then I walked a quarter, then ran for .75, etc. At the end of the .75 I was wiped. Turns out I forgot to reset my incline after my walk to 2% for my run. Phew. No wonder that was harder than I expected.
Have y’all seen this? This is why I wanted to make sure that I could do a 12-minute mile. I’m good with all of these except for the grip strength. I mean, I might be good, but I’ve never timed myself. I might go up to the school and do that later today. Surely, I can do 10 seconds!
