What a nice gift! And good results with your first ride!
We kind of did the opposite. We have very nice gravel bikes, but we are going on a bike trip in October that’s rated “intermediate/avid,” and there are some substantial hills. So, we (I) decided we should get new road bikes. I literally ordered them about 30 minutes ago, so I’m excited. It was tough choosing between a couple of them, but one just felt more comfortable for me, so that’s the one I went with. Husband may have liked the other one a tiny bit more, but decided to get the same one I got (with no influence from me on his choice).
I did something totally out of my comfort zone…signed up for a dance class. Its a Move to Music class at our neighborhood rec center and starts in a few weeks. I have 2 left feet but it is low impact, sounds like fun and hopefully I’ll meet some people.
I got my results today, a fair bit earlier than promised, and I am cancer free. Yay. They tested a few things, so that along with the regular check-up results, I think I’m good for awhile. I still should re-schedule my skin test some time this year.
My run today was pretty good. I didn’t feel great, but the times were pretty snappy, snappier than I had hoped. Lifting was mostly glutes and hip work.
That is the best news!
Had another speedy run segment this morning. First time I did the workout, where I run to the gym (in a meandering fashion), bike, abs, then run back, then lift. In the last several years, I haven’t been under 17 min (for one segment) in years. 17:30-18:00 was great. Today? 16:16?! Go me. Trying to be happy with what my body can DO vs how it looks… Not always an easy feat, but mornings like this help.
Today temps are going over 70 degrees, first time this late a date for that in 40 years. Had first bike ride since fall (unless you count the awful mile a few weeks ago, before tires pumped up). Did a “lake loop”, about 7 miles including the ride to/from the park. It was an easy ride - flat, slow, glorious weather. Not much of a workout, but I rejoiced in the ability to do so…. and on a retiree schedule.
Started a journey almost 2 months ago after 10 or so years layoff. Things are going so well. Tackling from the intake side and from the movement side. Feeling much better and sleeping much better. Just trying to take one day at a time.
Feeling good is an amazing benefit and outcome!
Great news about your test results, @ClassicMom98!! That’s wonderful.
@Colorado_mom - what a beautiful-looking ride!
Thanks. Usually I run that trail, but I ran yesterday and try to mix things up with a bike ride. Ha, plus I didn’t get out til mid day and probably am not ready to run at 70 degrees yet.
Spent the weekend in Asheville with my younger daughter-- we went to see the band “The Crane Wives.” Got lots of good exercise in, Saturday night we walked 3 miles round trip to brewery for dinner. Sunday we walked all over the place and got another 12K of steps in. Tuesday was my 1st 2nd grade girls practice followed by 90 minutes of soccer. At the end of the day it was 14.4K steps
Yesterday I didn’t close my rings. We went to Rochester for the (non) eclipse. We walked a lot, so I did get my rings closed every day, but it was a long travel day including bad traffic yesterday, and I decided not to worry about exercise.
We picked up our new road bikes today (Specialized Roubaix SL 8 Comp for anyone who cares about such things), and hopefully we will get lots of exercise with them in the coming months.
I am “proud” of myself - I turned down playing pickleball with the lead of one of my sessions each week. I was flattered to be asked to play with him, more than once (for different sessions), but pickleball is not easy on the joints, etc., and I already play 4 times a week. Biking is probably my “first love” when it comes to exercise, and I’m hoping I get lots of riding in this year.
Doing more biking sounds like a great choice!
I had a fun time skiing today, in the mountains - higher, cooler. Back home now, trying to figure out how to get rested and out running before it’s too hot. Temps here predicted to go up to 76 tomorrow and Saturday, 79 on Sunday.
So I did get out for a run today. Not used to the warmer weather but did have a 5k time under 40 min (ha, 39:59).
The really fun part of the run was that there must have been some kind of school holiday (or senior skip day?). Sooooo many young people hanging out in the grassy areas along my local lake trail. Some out on paddle boards too. Even if they were skipping school, it was a joy to see them socializing, playing volleyball, playing corn hole, cooking up a bbq. They were having fun outdoors with each other, and I didn’t see a cellphone or a laptop. But gosh, a whole lot of bikinis out there.
Yesterday I was not able to run until mid afternoon. Almost didn’t go because it was sunny and almost 80 degrees. Luckily CO is dry, ,and there was a breeze helped cool me. Not under 40min for my 5k goal, but honestly I was just pleased to survive it. Decided to run some more and went almost 4km more. Later I got out in the yard for some spring cleanup work.
Yesterday was a really good exercise day. Did pickleball for over 2 hours, and then rode my bike for over 16 miles. Plus I did some weights and other random stuff.
Today I played pickleball for 2.5 hours, but I was tired from all that work yesterday.
Took our bikes out for a 20 mile ride yesterday. Rode a paved bike trail that looked, on paper, promising. The reality was it was not a great ride. Super crowded in many parts and the pavement was very rutted and bumpy. We also had a pretty strong headwind for half of it. But, even a bad ride is a good ride, once its done, right?
I’m really enjoying my new bike. We’re planning our next bigger ride adventure, a 30 mile loop along both sides of the Delaware River in NJ and PA. Conveniently, the ride will terminate very close to one of my favorite special occasion restaurants: https://www.goldenpheasant.com/ It would be criminal not to end the day with dinner there, right?
Finally, I wanted to post a little brag…I am honestly completely shocked at the progress I’ve made in building muscle and just overall fitness since starting a routine working with weights. When I think of all of the hours of my life I have spent trying to cardio my way in to a certain shape/weight… who knew I could achieve it in as little as 10-20 minutes a few times a week? Well, many of you, I’m sure. But I am late to the game. Anyway, you’ll have to trust me when I say that I was “skinny fat” for much of my life, and here I am showing off my arms, after 8 weeks of working with weights.
Yay Team CC!
I watched the Boston Marathon this AM. I wish they would show more of those struggling in the back. Regular folks like me.
