I just did cardio so no soreness at all
Did my last hike for 2024 with my wife and daughter. It was about 5 miles at a cool Nature Conservancy Property that features the 2nd highest waterfall in VA
Good morning and happy new year! I
Had a super inspiring run this morning. We are visiting younger S/GF in his new apartment! Same bldg as older S/FDIL but they are visiting her parents now. Younger S’s Gf’s family is here too, so it’s been a nice time. Yesterday morning I ran 7 miles on a trail across key bridge, but this time I went straight to the mall. I love DC. And all the war memorials just are so inspiring and help me not to whimper so much running across the bridges straight into gale force winds.
Those are beautiful pics and I so agree that anytime I’m in DC the magnitude of the buildings and all sort of take my breath away.
Looked up some end of year stats on my Watch/Health App. Actually ended in most scenarios a little “down” from 2023 but pretty similar.
Beautiful run pix, @ClassicMom98!
Wow average of about 80 min a day, @abasket? That’s really impressive. Sometimes I’ll get to that when I’m walking/talking with friends but my gym visits usually don’t last more than 45-60 min.
Did yoga for first time in 3 months today. Again I’m hurting a little but again I pushed myself doing moves I haven’t in the longest time.
I keep relearning the lesson to jump back in slowly lol
In 2024 I had a lot of travels and pickleball fun, did feel like I was not getting to run much. But looking back at MapMyRun I ran 346km (214 miles). Definitely took fewer walks. Per iphone/health app, I only had about 5500 steps/day (including runs, pickleball etc). Still a “light” but varied and happy exerciser.
My daily minute average was 90 mins daily. Every morning I get about 50 mins between my exercise and walking the dog (he actually is a quick walker!) and then I tend to do another “easier” exercise activity after work - a walk or a swim in warmer weather or another pup walk. The morning activity which I’m pretty married to is the key.
Your post inspired me to look up stats for my Fitbit, which seem similar. I regularly have days with battery at 0 before recharging. If I had it had it charged consistently, I estimate miles/exercise totals would be ~10% higher.
Changes in 2024 include switching from a 5 of 7 day schedule to 5 of 6 days – Cardio, Weights, Weights, HIIT, Rest, Weights. I am not counting walks with dog or hiking in these scheduled exercise totals, which is where the bulk of miles are occurring. I’ve started deloading weights more regularly, which has led to improved strength progression and improved personal enjoyment, although overall strength progression was quite small over 2023 on most exercises. I expect I’d need to increase body weight for more rapid progression. I am content with my musculature and body fat %, so I am not trying to gain or lose – instead eating based on body signals, such as hunger.
The most notable 2024 improvements were instead on the cardiovascular side. I significantly increased treadmill speed for both cardio and HIIT, as well as number of HIIT intervals. With more challenging hikes on a regular basis this year, hiking up hills has become more effortless, including walking continuously uphill for miles. Limiting factor is more likely to be feet friction/padding, particularly for multiday hikes on uneven terrain. This has also improved, with rapid adaptions to a failure last month.
55-year old Belgian woman seeking a world record for running a marathon every day in 2024.
Me? I just continue to follow my programming. I went “off script” today and did, yep, you guessed it, a New Year’s Day “Murph.” I ran to the local park on a hill, with a pull-up bar, and then back home.
A new 16-week cycle begins next week and I will begin the process of preparing for the Spring competition that I signed up for a few weeks back.
That woman is nuts!!! ![]()
My gym was closed today. (How rude!)
Did 90 mins on home elliptical and 6 sets of dumbbells.
Impressive, @Data10, @sushiritto, & @gpo613! These extensive workout routines from everyone here are inspiring me!
A friend and I signed up for two free sessions with a personal trainer. I go Friday for my first session - really hoping to get some squat/deadlift form tips and a split routine for the gym.
Made my resolution for the new year…going to try to bike 2000 miles this year.

You gave me a good idea. Maybe I will track how many miles I ride this year. I don’t do Strava or any other apps, but I am going to check into them. Thanks, I think ![]()
First, let me say I never want to lecture anyone about what someone should do or eat. I am a huge proponent of do what works for you. We all have different challenges.
A few things that have helped myself and my better half. We meal prep our lunches on Sundays. Nothing crazy just sandwiches and cut up veggies or some fruit. I definitely don’t want to make my lunch each night. I like being able to grab 2-3 items in the morning. Also love saving the money. And I went to half sandwich instead of a full one. Back when I started my journey I somewhat accidently gave up diet soda. I was a big drinker of it. Anywhere from 32-48 oz per day. I just started drinking water with Mio and now gatorade zero. My treat on the weekends is V8 Spicy mixed with Sprite Zero or Ginger Ale Zero. I actually look forward to it.
My wife and I both work and our youngest D is in college. In early October we tried Factor75 meals. There are plenty of positives to it. Since both of us get home 5:45-6:00PM neither of us want to cook so the convenience is great. Dinner is done in 3-4 minutes. What I like most is the portion control. Meals range from 450-650 in calories. What I don’t like is the cost, but you can’t have everything. We usually do 4 meals a week. We will get food 1-2 times a week, but we find ourselves splitting fries and other things like that. And when we go out I try eating fish.
I will say our grocery bill has gone down.
Lastly we pretty much stopped buying crunchy snack items.
Nine weeks and one day post op. I admit I did not anticipate recovery taking this long, but my surgery (actually 3 surgeries) was quite extensive. Lifting anything heavy is still an issue as it causes soreness. I have been practicing yoga and dancing and have taken a few barre classes (skipping the weights). I got the balance board as well as a weighted vest for Christmas, am eager to start using the board, the vest will have to wait (no pun intended ). Just got back for a week in SoCal and did a lot of walking.
My goals for this year:
Take care of myself so I can fully recover.
Cut back on the wine.
Try to eat as few processed foods as possible
Get back to regular barre classes and hopefully take barre teacher training
Start running again
Sounds like great progress, FallGirl! Barre is challenging (and those weighted vests are no small thing either!). Wishing you a speedy remainder of your recovery!
You have been very patient AND creative in finding movement/exercise outlets!
My inspiring person story. There’s a lady who is very regular at the gym. Now that H works, he’s befriended her and she’s now his favorite member. She is 88 years old and drives 22 miles each way to go to the gym 7 days a week. She walks for an hour every time - at 3.5 mph and 15% grade!!! She’s very sweet. But just wow!
