Wow, a BIG congratulations to the lovely couple! ![]()
Still used, but “the kids” also use the term “diced,” “swole,” “yolked,” etc.![]()
Way back in this forum, I posted an article on creatine and its benefits beyond athletic performance, such as bone mineral density, decreasing cancer risk and increasing cognitive function.
So, I’ve finally decided to start supplementing my diet with microdosing of creatine. I’ll give a try and see how it goes. No loading up phase, since I’m in no hurry. ![]()
I’ve been taking 1/3 the recommended dose of creatine for about a year for strength and enhanced cognitive function. Lots and lots of articles out now on how it helps with those things (including for women in midlife, specifically). I can’t say for sure but I think it’s helped…
I would be interested in reading that article. I currently take nothing. I just usually do a protein shake each day to hit my protein number.
Creatine has had a bad reputation for as long as I can remember and for that reason I’ve not used it. But now, the supplement has seemed to have hit the mainstream. “Everyone” is supplementing it. A few months ago, I even discovered that a sibling and other relatives added it to their daily regimen.
I’ve talked to people ad nauseum about it in the gym for decades and I’m always hit the same line, which is “It’s the most studied supplement on Planet Earth.”
The increased athletic performance should be very easy for me to figure out, because I know my various lifting numbers extremely well. And my weight has been consistent for years. So, I’ll know without much doubt if Creatine helps in that area.
However, I’m mainly trying Creatine for the possible benefits in mental acuity, bone mineral density and decreasing my chances for cancer.
I know there’s all kinds of creatine, and I know you like to research so I’ll just trust you … what kind are you getting.
Good news: I got my new treadmill.
Bad news: When we turned it on, it caused the light switch to spark! ![]()
Good news: Neighborhood electrician made it out this morning to fix us up.
Bad news: Now we are considering redoing the whole house.
There are literally millions of creatine supplements on the market, so while I chose this particular product, there may be others that are equal or better.
I just wanted one that was unflavored and 3rd party tested. And I wanted a smaller amount so just in case I stop, I won’t have wasted my money.
Sounds like a good choice.
Looks like I haven’t posted in a bit.
Its soccer season so I am on the field 3 nights a week and all day on Saturday.
DW and I are walking more during the day which is great.
Still trying to find a pattern for the gym that works for me.
I watched this 20-ish minute video recently about creatine and thought of you, because the person that’s mainly speaking throughout the video starts the discussion with the science behind the supplement. Where I fell asleep. ![]()
There’s also an “actor” who presents the counter arguments that’s a little
, but if you ignore the poor acting, then the info is worthwhile. At the end of the video, the person explains the benefits to people over 40, IIRC.
I’ve watched Jeff Cavalier’s stuff for years. I think goofy guy’s name is Jesse? I started with his online ab videos and some mobility things. A few years ago I bought body beast. I didn’t like it as well as my Beachbody stuff because I like having people talking to me throughout. This is just a workout with some sec long demonstrations.
But what turned me off somewhat toward him were the workouts where it was based on percent of body weight and there was no modifications or scaling for women. I’m not going to get much of a workout doing bench sets at 100% of my body weight. Yes, I can scale it myself, but it irritated me that he didn’t even think about us. Not many women can rip out sets of 20 benching at their body weight. And those that can, probably aren’t buying his program.
And while he had a lifting program for women, the preview looked cheesy. I still like him though, and I still do his ab shuffle program almost every day. I love how it’s 4-7 min long and you can have it pick exercises based on the equipment you have (none, dumbbell, pullup bar, ball, etc) and also different levels of difficulty
NGL, I love some of the features on this new treadmill. Confused by others. ![]()
Look who I met up with on the National Mall this morning! S/he wasn’t afraid of anyone which was a bit concerning. But so beautiful! Pretty good 8 miler this morning despite the gross humidity. It is always so weird to see so many people running!
Wow so cool!! Were you at all concerned she might be rabid because unafraid? I had always heard that but not sure if any basis in fact. She’s beautiful!!
Your fox is prettier than our foxes
Yeah that always is first in my mind. So I backed away as it trotted toward me. I was probably only 7-10 feet away. But it did seem so happy and relaxed I’m hoping it’s just used to seeing thousands of people every day.
It’s a DC fox! I’m just a visitor
but it was beautiful!
Glad you got to see Ms. Fox and she was (presumably) healthy!
DW and I went for a walk in the woods yesterday at a nearby state park.
The real motivation though is that we’ve started the VA State Park Master Hiker challenge. The objective is to visit all 40 of the VA state park. It should be a fun little activity.
What a great idea!
Are you official retired already, or will your date come just as the gov’t may be shutting down?
