Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

^^^ That’s a nice variety!!!

4.2 miles walking and about 100 trips out to my D2’s car to load her up heading back to her apt. :slight_smile:

If anyone completed the lululemon challenge on strava, they have sent an email with a 25% discount on it. A nice bonus on a very easy, motivating challenge

@abasket, is your daughter moving out, or going back to college, or what?

She is in grad school - she came home for a month-ish and did classes online but was heading back for summer classes (also online). In addition to her personal stuff she bought outside plants, refurnished an adirondack chair and another piece of furniture and also bought all her groceries so she would not have to shop for a bit back at her apt! Home was just a nice change of environment when having to “stay in place”!

Back in the gym today. I took my Mother’s Day off.

Belated, but Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.

Oly lifting is difficult to do in my small home gym, because I can’t add too much weight, like a PR, since if I have to let the barbell fly, there’s little room for it to travel and the walls might come crashing down. :smile:

Thus, I worked on skills. I started with some snatches and then transitioned to cleans and front squats with heavier weight. And I finished with a 14:30 HIIT of jump rope, GHD sit-ups and clean and jerks.

@sushiritto

But think of us! A Barbell flying would make such a great story!

:slight_smile:

Yes, don’t destroy your home, @sushiritto !

3.6 gloomy outside miles this morning before a work call. Got it done!

I did over an hour on the bike already this morning, and some stretching. Will do some (light) weights while I watch the kitten explore the house. (With big cat locked up).

I know I am making some progress (because I track my workouts) but it doesn’t always feel that way. It’s a little discouraging because when I think I can add more work, then something always happens to make me feel like an old lady. (I am 60.) For example, I have tried to do just a little bit more jogging in a jog/walk/run routine, and now my old ankle injury feels … not painful exactly…but strange. I’ve been doing great with three workouts a week on the rowing machine, but when I add more, I feel something going on in my elbow. It doesn’t hurt while rowing and it could also be related to extra computer use or trying to do some resistance training. (I had a forearm/elbow problem last year which started while I was traveling and away from the rowing machine; I think it might have started from dragging a rolling suitcase too much! but it did get better.) When I back off and rest, everything goes away. But it’s discouraging!

^^Some of the progress you should count as progress is mental progress! Figuring out what your body can handle, making adjustments for limitations, etc. Sounds like you are trying lots of different things - maybe eliminate one for a little bit and see if you can pinpoint the culprit -like decide on one - rowing OR resistance training.

Two mile walk this morning and 3.25 mile run tonight. Weather should be warming up as I look at the week ahead so hoping that more exercise will be related to planting and gardening! The last several nights have been in the 30’s!

@orangepurple You are doing great. I hear you on the aging and progress. I’m 67 and feel like I just want to not be Humpty Dumpty.

@orangepurple

Oh for sure! I am often achy & creaky & sometimes just a big ball of inflammation.

However, for me, that general “beat up” feeling is different than an “injury” feeling.

Some of the PTs in strength training will encourage masters athletes to keep training but to try to find that balance of intensity & volume that does not make matters worse.

At least in strength training, masters generally cannot tolerate a lot of volume, but need intensity.

Congrats on your progress and I hope you stay injury free!

After a few days in sneakers, my “gardening twisted” foot seems better. I can now walk barefoot on hard floor without pain. I will probably stick to walking a few more days, then maybe try a short run this weekend. I am VERY cautious with injuries - I need these body parts in good shape in case we ever get to travel again :wink:

A brisk 3.5 mile walk in between bands of rain (also fetched some pizzas on the way home!) After 88 degrees this past weekend, the “normal” for this time of the year 60 degrees feels… like the North Pole. Lol.

Regarding the “barbell flying,” I’m conservative by nature, but I recorded a few “dumps” with barbell that are hilarious. I remember one heavy snatch where I accidentally threw the barbell forward and had to chase it down and made several clownish attempts trying to grab it from behind. I finally gave up and let it slow down and stop on it’s own.

Today I worked on handstand push-ups first and then the HIIT was 5 rounds of rowing 500m, lots of pull-ups and heavy-ish front squats. Total time was 26:20. No core work today, but the program called for 20 minutes of “aerobic threshold intervals” on the assault bike. Let’s just say that my legs are very sore.

I promised myself I wouldn’t post until I took care of the work crud I didn’t want to do. But it’s finished. Well mostly. Yesterday was a good day. Run was strong, video was legs. Another one of those where I was concentrating so hard on doing the movement correctly/keeping up that I didn’t realize just how hard I was working until I was done. Ouch. Thank goodness today was the rest/easy day. I was just going to walk, but then started to putter slowly and felt better as I went along. I surprised myself by staying out there the normal amount of time. Then I did some core work and two of the repair and recover videos. I re-did Week 1 which focuses on the hips. I probably should do that every day. Week 3 was for shoulders. I didn’t realize how tight my shoulders are. Not surprised, but still. Woah.

I was jealous of my two S’s yesterday. They went hiking on the AT (approx. 2-2.5 hours away) with 2 friends. Friend #1 is younger S’ usual hiking around town buddy, and both parents are in the medical field. Friend #2 is an occasional hiking buddy, and his Dad is my kids’ & H’s family doctor. If they were OK with them going, then I had no issues. But they did a hike that I’ve always wanted to do with the family! We were going to do it a couple of years ago, but younger S just HAD to go and break his foot. Grr… (kidding) They had a good time but said I might not be crazy about part of it where it was more climbing than hiking. Hmm. We will see. Maybe we will go in a few weeks.

There are many things I like about my job. Construction admin is not one of them. (putting it mildly) We used to have a co-worker take care of everything for us, but he had to go and retire a few years ago. I guess after 50 years, he deserved it.

Gloomy morning, but it’s supposed to get really hot here over the next couple of days. Got outside for 4 miles before the work calls started. The days march on…

@sushiritto

We need that video!

@ClassicMom98

I miss hiking so much!

Checking in: for the last week I’ve been walking or running for an hour. My IT band was acting up yesterday, which is always a sign that I need to work on strengthening, so I forced myself to do a HIIT/Strength workout on Fitness Blender this morning. The fact that I struggled a bit at the beginning reinforced my need for this.

I ran out of time today, so I flopped my Wednesday and Thursday workouts again this week. So I ran a 5K, since my time was limited.

Tomorrow, I hope to go to the outdoor pull-up bar and work on my muscle-ups and take a couple dumbbells for a HIIT workout.
