Flip This House #4

The grey on the exterior of the house really looks nice. It resembles a darker version of the paint on our home. We have white trim throughout and have liked the color scheme for the decades we have lived here–so much that H is repaininting the house in same color scheme. Your home is really coming together!

Im struggling with the pure white trim color because i think its making the front kind of Cape Cod rather than contemporary. Problem is that base color has warm tones, i didnt bring it enough to the cool tone. So, my cool tone trim swatches i put up this morning look stupid.

HOA regulations in CA are a big controversy right now. Some people tried to re landscape the fronts of houses or condos to succulents or zeroscape and they got in trouble or fined. This went all the way to governor and several new lawspassed forcing HOAs to accept drought ttolerant landscape, and recently allowing fake grass

Can you find a warm white that will work?

Here are some paint suggestions from Behr:

I like the Durango Blue they suggest with Elephant Skin. It would also go with a nice blue front door that many of us have urged, to match sky and view of bay.

All the pallettes are using Crystal Cut for trim so I’ll run out and get a sample of that. Thanks for the ideas. Hard to research stuff on the job without a computer on hand

Crystal cut looks nice and seems like it will go well with your grey.

Another vote for crystal cut. If you look at the picture of the room in the paint link, you can see how much softer that white is than what you have now. I think it will look great!

The blue could look very nice on the door.

I think I prefer this one:

It also uses Crystal Cut, but he blue is lighter. I think it kind of echoes the kitchen cabinets and backsplash.

Actually, I like the purplish one–and, of course, the greenish  --but it doesn’t relate to the inside.

I myself prefer the Durango blue.

I would stick with a true color like the Durango…no purple…no green. Just blue.

Yep, as posted above, I am a fan of the Durango Blue. It would have broad appeal and go with the blue backsplash, sky and bay. If you want two accent colors, yes, the Crystal Cut as well.

Durango is nice, too.

Ballroom Blue is nice as well. One reason we’ve stuck with the original colors is that we have a hard time deciding o switch ANYTHING around here.

I’d paint my house with that Ballroom Blue color!

Well, actually, to me the problem is the Elephant Skin. It is too dark for me, for that house. But I understand why coralbrook needs to stick with it.

Another vote for Durango Blue door with Crystal Cut trim. Casual Khaki might be nice on the floor of the front porch.

I think the Elephant Skin is a good color, as long as the accents on the door, trim, etc., contrast with it.

Dang, before I arrived this morning the painting team had gone to town with the pure white. I said “Fine, now you have the base coats on, don’t be surprised if I have several samples up for you next week”. I like lots of coats on the trim so the new trim color will have to be the final coat.

So far we are at 23 gallons and 6 man days of painting and 9 man days prep. We are still stucco patching flaky areas of the wall. Could you imagine if I changed the color a lot and had to do a second coat?
