Yep, that’s one of the main reasons we didn’t want a pool and lived ones have regrets for theirs.
Upkeep was part of it, but more that he didn’t want to have a concrete back yard filled with pool and no lawn. He also didn’t want to pay more for a pool instead of indoor space or lot size. I am, however, delighted, and have made good use of it. It doesn’t hurt that we have (as our pool guy says) one of the nicest pools in the area with lovely landscaping. And DH has gotten into the concept of outdoor “rooms”. Now his only complaint is the amount of condensation every morning - the deck and all the chairs are wet until the sun gets to them.
First world problems. ![]()
I’d make it: “Completely renovated with panoramic water views for under a million!” The views were there before you did all your work.
Dang… woke up at 5am this morning panicking. I forgot that my agent asked me to buy a nice hanging lamp for downstairs bedroom. In order to pass final inspection last week I quickly took off one of the cheap ceiling lights from the front bedroom and put it into the ceiling downstairs. Code says you have to have a light that turns on from switch as you enter a bedroom. We had capped off the ceiling light downstairs and just had the bedside sconces installed. I had not found something I love, so I was going to leave it up to buyers to select their own fixture (I sometimes do this in dining rooms because dining room chandeliers are a personal choice).
We ran upstairs and pulled ceiling fixture and quickly installed in bedroom. It is still there and there are bare wires with wire nuts in front bedroom. Now my carpenter is on vacation and I am certainly not qualified to get up on a high ladder and install a light fixture!!! Geez, what a dilemma.
And, I realized we need to haul some gravel and lay gravel over the left hand side of retaining wall before Open Houses. Lots to do today!! Unfortunately I only have one laborer coming to clear trash out and go to dump. He is going to have to haul that gravel out of back of truck to bottom of driveway and then transfer to old paint buckets to walk it across the deck and dump one bucket at a time over top of retaining wall. This is going to take forever.
Maybe I should have waited patiently at my original asking price. This house just went into contract. Really nice original details, superior street but under flight path and no view
3217 Goldsmith, 92106
Looks like most of these houses above $1 million are on market for about a month before they sell
As a rule, I don’t like homes with dark wood trim, but for some reason it works with the Goldsmith house. I really like the windows in the living room and the French doors into the kitchen area. I wonder what it sold for.
The Nipoma Property is listed on the NY Times home search website through Pacific Sotheby’s. Sotheby’s only does a full page insert in the print NY Times once a month. Our next chance is for Nov 16 and the ad has to be placed by Nov 9. So… if we are not sold by Nov 9 my agent may pay for the Nov 16 print ad
Another thing on my list for today is that I have decided to install sheer curtains in the middle bedroom. The views out the window are the ugly next door neighbor house ‘in your face’ as you walk into the room. So, I’m hoping a little décor will hide the view.
I’m not the best handyman, so I’m hoping I can get a curtain rod installed that might actually stay up until next week
Patiently waiting for Target to open so I can run in and get curtain rods and some sheers!
Re: 3217 Goldsmith:
That hallway with the deep wild salmon wall paint - odd color choice.
And the random white refrigerator in that unstaged area? Strange.
I really don’t think you have any reason to panic yet.
My parents put in a pool when I was a kid, and my sister has one. It never seemed like a big deal in comparison to the pleasure, and we never had a “pool guy” or whatever.
Yay!!! Two agents with buyers came through already this morning and one agent has already called my agent after showing and said their buyer is interested!!
Bidding war! Bidding war!!!
BTW, if I haven’t said so before, the painted vanity just makes a HUGE difference in the downstairs bath!
Looking good, cb!
We inherited the pool guy from the previous owner. From what I’ve read, the cost of buying chemicals yourself comes close to the pool guy fees. I myself do laugh at the idea of having a pool guy; we’ve never even had a cleaning service or lawn guy; have always done everything ourselves. Until now.
@Marilyn, people I know from California are convinced that you HAVE to have a pool guy. Not so in the east, at least not in my experience.
I first heard this from a woman who had also had a laundress and a maid/cook in CA. She couldn’t believe that she couldn’t afford to hire such people in CT. At that time, there was obviously a shortage of cheap immigrant labor in CT. B-)
We have a pool guy…otherwise between AZ’s heat and monsoons (stuff in pool, foliage and dust) keeping the pool blue is a nightmare.
Just had a crazy showing. There is a guy that has brought his family several times. Today he brought his Dad over. He said he has 4 studio condos in downtown buildings. He wants to trade.
Interesting, but I owe XXX dollars, some of which has to be paid off in escrow. I would have to bring money to the table, not going to happen.
It would be different if he had some kind of distressed property on Mt Helix or something that would be a potential project
And then he started asking if I could add a kitchenette downstairs (turn it into rental to help pay his mortgage) and expand deck for him
Would it take an extra permit to add a kitchenette and make that a separate living space? It would here.
A trade just seems like a bad idea, especially if you have to bring money to the table. He has nothing to lose. Would your agent even entertain the idea?
