Yes, I may just download the cut out specs for the Bosch cooktop and go with that. At least I will have something in hand when the countertop guy comes to measure.
Roofer has no liability. He works for me at a hugely reduced cost on the weekends. Noone knew this freak rain was coming through or he would have come over after work during the week to finish it. After carpenter and I arrived this morning we determined that we only have a small portion of ceiling drywall that has to be patched up around those small little LED recessed lights I put in over the kitchen island. The other area of drywall damage is in the same closet area that is going to be torn out for the new staircase. So, after a lot of phone calls from tile guys, carpenter out in the rain on roof and roofer phone calls on Sunday, all is good.
Yes, I agree. I found software that lets me impose a garage door style on my front photo. After doing that it was like Hey?? that’s a lot of money for that door. Where’s the wow factor?
Still waiting for 2 garage door companies to even give me a bid for garage door and install
Still waiting for 2 plumbing companies to give me an estimate on the whole sump pump thing downstairs.
Tile guys didn’t show up today. I was not happy. They took out our only toilet on Saturday with my express instructions to hurry up and lay the floor and get it grouted Monday morning so we can have a toilet. I show up… floor tile is not complete, toilet is in the middle of the living room and then they never show up.
I asked carpenter to put on a couple of the doors I purchased to check the style. I’m not ‘feeling it’. Somehow my kitchen doesn’t quite look like that gorgeous inspiration photo from Houzz. But, sent some photos to my agent and she says “I love it”. Another critical decision on the line right now
My updated plans with new structural engineer stamps were delivered right to the project by my draftsman. Great service - no extra charge. I quickly ran down to the City (like I don’t have a million other things to do like get a sink and cooktop!!!) and proceeded to sit in a chair for 2 hours waiting for my turn to get up to the counter. I have to start all over again with my reviews since I ‘changed the scope’ of the plans. But the good news is they removed the requirement for Landscape Review off my project.
Tomorrow I get to spend all morning there again doing ‘over the counter’ reviews and I think they will all be approved.
I think you may be experiencing “white blindness” for the lack of a better term. It happens. If it’s not too late, would you consider the doors with the glass inserts? The glass may provide you with enough visual dimension. TBH, I have upper wall cabs with glass inserts and I like seeing my things inside. It’s a bit like still art.
I may have missed something, so please ignore my comments if they’re not relevant or helpful.
The glass garage doors I’ve seen have always had either dark wood or dark paint (e.g., black or charcoal grey). This seems to create a more contemporary look than the white. Typically there’s trim in the same color ( window frames painted out in charcoal grey, or a dark wood front door) or something similar in value. I realize you have white trim and this suggestion could open a can of worms, but thought I’d throw it out there. Given the fact that the sides of the house are rarely visible, maybe you could even paint the trim on the facade and leave the white on the sides…? Or maybe that would look horrible.
Looking at your photo of kitchen cabinets, they seem to be crying out for a glass subway tile backsplash, maybe a very pale grey, green or aqua. It could tie together the wood base cabinets with the glossy (can’t recall if they’re glass) uppers and lend a cool factor for a San Diego home with ocean views.
So glad to hear the damage from the deluge was minimal. Also glad to know that when you go home at the end of a hot and strenuous workday, you can float around in a pool!
Hahhh… I can count on one finger (yes once) that I’ve been in the pool in the last year. Water has to be 85 or above for me to put my toes into the pool, plus I do not have enough ‘downtime’ to enjoy the pool like I used to. Pool was installed for D when she was young
Garage Door - that pic is supposed to be the ’ clear aluminum’ surrounding the frosted glass. It looks like white in the picture for some reason. Just got two quotes for that dinky little garage door… $2,400 installed by a local guy and he’ll haul away old one or $2,100 shipped to San Diego and someone needs to install it. I’m going to guess wood or painted aluminum in a different color adds a lot to the cost. ‘trim’ around house is minimal. Unfortunately a lot of white windows that cannot be changed.
Just got one quote from fancy plumbing company for rough plumbing of one toilet, one sink and bathtub and sewage sump pump install = $5,500. Are you kidding me??? And that’s if we do all the concrete cutting, trenching and opening up walls to get vents up through the main floor to the roof
Yes, IKEA has the frosted glass doors with the rim - I don’t like those as much as a full glass door without seeing the rim. That rim style kind of screams IKEA to me, maybe I’m wrong
Have you looked at glass subway tiles for the backsplash? Or some other glass tile (maybe large format so the only “seams” would be vertical)? That’s a great look in a contemporary kitchen.
I’ve always loved this tile, though I haven’t checked to be sure it’s suitable for a backsplash. I think it’s by Porcelanosa and called Crystal Acido, but I’ve exceeded the limits of my Googling capacity.
Yes, I could do a greenish tone solid glass backsplash around the stove because it is a small space and would not break the budget. It might look really good with the gloss cabinets
+1 to @Zipyourlips ideas for a cool glass tile back splash. Great idea!
About the frosted glass upper cabs, I cannot tell if the new Sektion aluminum and glass doors are as washed out as they look online. I haven’t seen them in person and you have. If the glass inserts look flimsy, definitely stay away.
Something very interesting about these painted glass solid backsplashes. Where the heck are the outlets? They all look gorgeous because they don’t have any outlets breaking up the glass expanse.
