Really glad you got your permit figured out, @coralbrook.
We are in our own little mini-hell here. Day 6 of roof/gutter replacement on what I was assured would be a likely 2 and maybe 3 day job. But no. The roofing contractor has a shingle crew (this is a 128 year old Victorian, so lots of complicated roof lines) and brought in a commercial crew for the flat white EPDM sections. One of the crews has partially crushed one of the brand new (last week) half round gutters, which the gutter guy and roofing contractor decided needed to be installed before re-doing the shingles. The flat roof guys needed power today, and suddenly I don’t have lights in my kitchen, hall or main level bathroom, and my fridge is off. Got the breaker re-set for the fridge (whew) but we apparently have one breaker that is dead now. And the breeze has come up, and lots of little bits of paper, plastic and whatnot that the crew tossed in the debris truck are being blown off. It hit 99 today, so I’m sure that working up on that roof is sheer misery, but I just want this done.
I clearly do not have a future as a house flipper. And I continue to be in awe of @coralbrook’s ability to get things done.
“they are insisting that I should ‘write a letter’ complaining about being pushed around for 3 weeks.”
LISTEN to them!
DO it!
If you dont, then the jerks who knowingly pushed you around will suffer no ramifications!!
They work for a GOVERNMENT agency , whose funding comes from YOU , the taxpayer.
You need to notify everyone, in writing, of how you were treated.
That is the ONLY way the SUPERVISORS will be able to get rid of the dead wood.
With written proof of egregious, unjustifiable behavior by someone who did not follow procedures and make up their own rules.
Those who complain to city council representatives, the major, the city manager- who is hired with the approval of the council and the Supervisors of the depts who make the mistake of jerking around a “squeeky wheel”, ARE listened to and are the ones who can make change happen.
I remember hearing of the letter that Pat Tillman’s father sent to the Army, full of curse words and accusations, that still had to be filed as an official complaint and it launched an investigation. It’s worth a try, especially if it gets names, dates and incorrect procedures into the public record.
coralbrook, you are awesome. I admire your tenacity!! You’ve certainly gone through many weeks of hell, but you’ll have the appropriate permits and inspections, and the house itself will be amazing!!
I’m hopeful this is going to produce record profits for you!!!
Up early to get all clean and nice for my big morning at the City. I’m hoping that the Zoning Supervisor will give me 5 minutes to plead my case for the basement bathroom. Since the basement bathroom was approved all the way through the process by every other department, it would not be big deal to get it back in at Zoning sign off.
One of the key issues remaining is that we submitted the project as a 3rd story addition with all the floors labeled accordingly. At submission the ‘Project Manager’ reviewed the plans and advised me to change everything to a 2nd story addition. This turned into a big mess when it got to Zoning. They kept insisting it was a 3rd story addition. Fine, I just changed all the labeling to make them happy.
Turns out that the ‘Scope of Work’ entered into the computer system says 2nd story. The Zoning Supervisor says that he has to go over to Submittal Desk and get the Scope of Work changed to 3rd story before I can go through issuance procedure. If they change it during my issuance process (or after) it becomes a ‘Change in Scope’ and I will have to submit plans all over again through all departments for review.
I still cannot figure out what the nuances are that legally make it a 3rd story versus a 2nd story. There is no liveable space under the house and 75% of it is under ground. In reality, noone is going to call the garage and basement the 1st story.
Uggh, nightmare continuing!!
I was specifically told by Supervisor that he was going to meet with Reviewer and everything signed off and stamped. Come in at 8:30 (this was after i begged to get it completed at 2:30 yesterday…but no, they close at 4pm and they couldn’t possibly sign off that afternoon)
Get here at 8:30 and Supervisor is just standing around with my plans in hand. “Oh sorry, haven’t had a chance to meet with Reviewer yet. Wait here for awhile”
