The Savoy vanity makes me think of the Wardrobe from the animated Beauty and the Beast. I keep hearing Jo Anne Worley’s voice when I see it
I ordered the Savoy and it will be here in 5 days. If it doesn’t go with the house at all then I will return it and get the Hamilton. I just want to make sure that the countertop on the Hamilton is not some ugly granite (since it is hard to tell from the photos)
What color savoy did you order?
Fake beams just make me roll my eyes. They don’t fool anyone, they just look… fake. IMO.
They aren’t going to be brown fake wood, they are going to be painted out in white satin paint. We will see…
I took a big gamble and ordered the Savoy in Antique Aquamarine. Might hate it, might love it. But I’m willing to take a risk and get the Hamilton in grey if I don’t like it
It’s going to be in the store for pickup within 1 week so I have time to turn around and get another one if I need to.
And yes… looks similar to the wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast !
Are you saying you are going to add beams, and then paint them white? Why is that necessary.
At risk of seeming to pile on, I would also vote to not add the beams.
Well, it’s almost unanimous! No beams. That is in direct contrast to my agent who is all excited about having the beams. This is one of those design issues that I will have to agonize over. Won’t be able to make up my mind until we get a couple of them up on the ceiling.
CB…maybe explain to us why your agent feels so strongly about wooden fake beams that are going to be painted white and will blend in with the ceiling? This agent has given you good advice…so there must be a good reason!
I think we both want to add some type of character upstairs because the main floor is so full of character. We don’t want people to go upstairs and it just smacks of an sterile drywall addition. Although the views will draw the eye immediately and the big Nano accordion door will add some appeal.
CB, some people might prefer the peacefulness of the white walls and gorgeous views.
Personal opinion…I don’t think white pained beams will add a speck of character.
This might be the space you really want to think about for staging.
I agree that white walls are peaceful–bedrooms should be peaceful. I personally see no reason for fake beams to break up the peacefulness.
OK, back to lighting. I need to get my butt in gear and get all the lighting ordered now. Here are all the places I need lighting!!! Yikes!!!
Two main floor bedrooms
Guest hallway bedroom
Hallway flush light
Kitchen Chandelier
Living Room Chandelier
Dining Room Chandelier
Powder room - 2 sconces
Master Bath - 3 sconces
Master bedroom chandelier
and I probably forgot some
So, we will start with living room chandelier because it is the most important statement piece and it needs to be big
Powder room will have the Savoy or Hamilton vanity in either grey or antique aqua/sea glass. Floors are dark oak original, toilet is white. I want two sconces framing mirror left and right. There is no other ceiling lighting

Something simple like this and then buy a shade for it

This one would be mixing metals (faucet is chrome)

Mixing metals again, but would be the style of the house

I really like this one, but might be mixing metals/colors too much

Is the shiny chrome finish back in style?
I like this one the best. I personally do NOT like the cloth shades. When they get dusty and dirty…and they will…there is no way to really clean them.
This one has simple lines, and I think it would look nice with your vanity choices.
@Madison85 around here…yes…the polished chrome is “in”. But more than that, I think it fits the style of this house better than the contemporary look of brushed pewter look.
@thumper1: When my lamp shades get dusty, I use an adhesive lint roller to clean them.
The ones with crystal or pleated/gathered shades look too fussy for this house, and some of these options have a cheaper vibe IMO. Have you looked at Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn? Lots of RH’s stuff is ridiculous, but there are some fairly simple single sconces that have a higher-end look.
I prefer glass rather than a shade and definitely wouldn’t do a colored shade. Ditto any faux metal look.
