Not really endorsing this one, but could not resist from sharing! It is one of the weirdest chandeliers I have seen:

I might be in the minority, but I like the living room fixture. Love seeing all these pictures of things coming together, especially the kitchen:)
can you take pix of the kitchen ceiling from a couple of places so we can get a better idea if what kind of space you are dealing with?
BB…that one belongs in the hideous CT house. But if they had it, it would be homemade.
I could just imagine how dirty those bottles would get in a kitchen!
Here’s some ideas I’m kicking around. I’ve just started the search for the kitchen. I would like 24" to 30" wide so that it would look nice if an island is underneath the central hanging light and probably could go 36" tall for grandeur because the ceiling is very tall
These will mix up the metals a bit because they are a soft brushed gold color

I’m personally in love with something over the top like this one, but it is not large enough

I honestly don’t like the brushed gold…and I think the last one that you love isn’t right for this house.
I think a brushed nickel would be a better choice.
Here’s links to a couple of Flickr group photos that show the ceiling, but none of them show it finished as it is now (except for cleanup on beam). but you can see how the beam does not drop down much from the raised ceiling.
thumper1 … I know. I need to rein myself in a bit from something crazy and over the top
I just cannot find anything that is really interesting in brushed nickel. They are all just plain jane
You already have a LOT going on in the kitchen; plain jane seems the way to go. Are you sure you need anything? I would take the kitchen light budget and put it toward a more upscale living room light fixture. I definitely don’t like the fancy chandeliers for the kitchen.
Just for fun; I know some of these are getting out of your price range. But hopefully not plain jane!

can you take some angled photos of kitchen ceiling from different locations without people, boxes, etc, now that most of the appliances have been installed? what it looks like from the DR, Pantry, etc etc
do you have recessed lighting around the perimeter of the kitchen? a la recessed cans?
I’ll take some more photos on Monday and get them loaded
Thank you Marilyn for researching Lamps Plus. I see several there that might work.
Reason I think I need a central light fixture is that I only have lighting around the perimeter of the kitchen and under the cabinets. The ‘center’ of the kitchen does not have any general lighting. I could always cap it off and let the buyers select something they love. The hard work is done… spent a lot of effort to pull wire into that beam for lighting. But, I’m worried that the kitchen may appear too dark if buyers come for showings at night.
Seems to be in stock again, on sale, and some items are additional 10% off.
If that doesnt work, at the bottom, you can enter an email address (your husband’s?) to get 10% off your “first” purchase.
Here is a flush mount that I have ordered for the guest bedroom because it has an 8ft ceiling so I have to put up something that doesn’t drop down a lot
Only 2 Left! for the island. That happened last week and then it was sold out again. I am so so tempted. I have measured carefully and this would fit perfect into the kitchen. I just don’t have the $1,500 to spend right now. I have too much lighting to buy. I have kitchen fixture, 2 outdoor fixtures that don’t have to be wonderful because they are just lights in back of house and probably have to replace the living room fixture. I have $600 left in budget
I really really want it
Yes, there are small 3" recessed lights in kitchen around perimeter and the under cabinet lighting and the lighting in the stove vent. I’ll try to include those in the photos I take tomorrow.
P.S. not impressed with the lighting they have shown above the island. Also the island has dark bronze pulls and the rest of the kitchen is stainless and brushed nickel pulls. I don’t know if the whole thing will go together
cb, if that’s all that’s left in the budget, I think you should do your best to talk yourself out of the island.
I agree with you about the pulls. If you buy the island, next thing you’re going to want to do is replace the pulls . . . .
I’m undecided about the living room fixture… I suspect that nce you have things staged, many people won’t notice much one way or the other.
My husband is a lighting designer…electrical engineer. He says there are two reasons for lights…illumination…and/or decor statement. When we did our house, he tried to explain…sometimes you want the lights NOT to make a statement. In other words…not the focal point of the room. That is how I feel about your LR. There is too much else I would want folks to be focusing on…fireplace, gorgeous view. The fixture would not be something I would want to detract from the rest.
In kitchens, DH is adamant that lighting needs to be functional…and properly illuminate. I showed him the chandelier types, and he said he would only suggest that if they provide sufficient illumination for a possible island below. Otherwise that work surface will be covered with shadows and will drive the users nuts.
But that’s his opinion. We on,y have one “statement” light in our house…and it’s in a two story foyer. I hate the foyer, but I love the light. Our DR and breakfast room table lights are very understated. And we have a TON of different kinds of recessed lights in this house.
