This flip has presented more challenge than the others, IMO, and I think they have all been fabulous. This one is the best yet, as far as I’m concerned, and I’m hoping you will have it sold before Christmas. I have no idea how you will top this one The pictures are one of the treats of my day each day now and showcase your amazing vision!
My house has some ancient push switches, that turn on the equally old chandelier in three phases: center light, then outer lights, then all lights. Fourth push turns it off. So no dimmer switch.
Don’t know about the size, but it is graceful, would work with varying decorating aesthetics, and would harmonize with other lights for the K and LR. The DR light may turn out to be the lynchpin of the whole ensemble.
This and some of the ones like it might be cool in the kitchen, if you want to step away from the obvious:
Right now they are complete as is. They cannot have framing because most of the windows in the house are bullnosed into the original plaster. A rounded edge going into the window - can’t get any trim around the windows. Every window in the house has the baby bullnose, even the new ones. We did it to match the original windows. It is the spanish style
Still deciding if I am going to paint the vinyl with white vinyl spray to get them to the right color
What all this lighting shopping has shown me is that I really don’t care for chandeliers, generally speaking. I like unobtrusive. In fact, all my table lamps are just plain glass, from Simon Pearce, like this: http://www.simonpearce.com/fairlee-tall-lamp
What did you decide about the cabinet inserts, are you going with metal screens or seeded glass? I think that would impact your choice of kitchen lighting.
2, or any fixture with open "cups' facing up, would be a pain to keep clean. Dust, bugs...how in the heck do you get them out of there? With a candle type fixture you could use a duster or even a vacuum wand, but with these cups you'd have to get up there and vacuum from the top.
ITA with @2VU0609, this house should sell very quickly. I will miss watching its progress via your photos.
@zipyourlips, that’s a good point about upward open cups/bowls. We have several semi-flush mount fixtures in halls and bathrooms that dh must clean out regularly so that guests don’t see the shadow of a dead scorpion when they turn on the light.
Spiders would probably love to spin their webs in the curly cues. I admit I’m not a fan of traditional chandelier shapes.
I’ve been eyeing that Heritage for a while but wondered if it might not get a bit lost up in the ceiling with all the straight lines up there. Also how it would photograph if you hung it as you noted along the beam - looking straight towards the fireplace, you’d only see it from the end. For that reason, I like the shape of the Marco - it evokes the beautiful fireplace.
OK, I ordered #4 because it will arrive early next week and I can return to Home Depot if I hate it. I am bummed that it comes down to the one that can be returned easily. My head is just swimming trying to figure out how to return the giant Overstock lamp
Are you thinking of using the 5 light version of the Gloucester (#4) in the kitchen for continuity? If you like the style of #4 when you see it in person but think it’s not large enough for the living room, would you try it in the dining room and use the larger Gloucester (18 light version) from HD in the living room?
Instead of paying return shipping costs, would it make sense to keep the current Overstock fixture to use in a future house?
I’ll get back to lighting later this evening. Today I drove in circles looking for appliances
Scored a Bosch super quiet stainless interior dishwasher at the Sears Outlet for $500
Then Pacific Sales had a return still in box of a JennAir counter depth french door clean front that matches the oven perfectly!! $1,500!!! Its last year’s discontinued model. I just have to figure out how to transfer it myself because they won’t deliver
I really should not keep the Overstock living room chandelier because that would be another $400 or so sitting in my garage that probably will never get used again You would not believe the stuff crammed in my garage that I keep thinking I need to keep. Like one leftover box of tile that probably only covers 15 or 20 sq ft, leftover baseboard from 5 years ago, you name it
