Flip This House #5

I agree that the master bath looks great! I love the frames around the mirrors.

And I really hope the handrail down to the garage dries in time for the Open House.

Again, eager to hear all the feedback.

I haven’t done anything about the sconces above the bed. Too busy with everything else. I only hope that all eyes are on the view and noone turns around and focuses on the odd light configuration:)

Today is another difficult balancing act. Have to run to Home Depot to get last minute items, then scrub for 3 hours but then magically try to get dressed decent and look relaxed as people arrive

Interesting development

This morning I arrived to find two older gentleman at the house. I recognized one of them as the brother of the lady that sold the house. He has been by several times to take photos.

I invited them into the house to see the transformation. They were appreciative of the effort to retain the character.

But the best part was they shared the history of the house. This house was built by a one star general returned from World War I who had taken photos or drawings of French Normandy manors and commissioned the house to be built matching his memories. What a cool story

He finished in 1937 and then his wife passed away and he sold to this family including furniture and all. It has been in the same family since 1939

We are quickly changing description in MLS and flyers

That is a wonderful story!

I still love those sconces. The master bath looks great, and I love the story behind the house.

To go with the Norman theme you need some espaliered fruit trees along the bedroom wing. They’d look great there. B-)

Is there anyway you can include the history of the house in some sort of info sheet you give to people when they tour the house? I know it’s too late for the open house but maybe in the future if the house doesn’t sell today;-)

The original listing from last January did say “1937 French style cottage” so the style probably shouldn’t have been a surprise. There weren’t really Spanish elements other than the white stucco. The story is interesting.

Tons of people coming through. In fact agents with buyers started coming at 10am while i was on my hands and knees scrubbing floors

At the open house. Steady stream of people. Just heard a wife say, “I’m surprised there isn’t an elevator” and the husband reply, “20 grand”.

She could curl up in the dumbwaiter if she really wants to.

Now I’m lounging on the deck - beautiful warm day and it should be a stellar sunset if the clouds don’t roll in.

That couple was on the upper deck and wondered what was behind the little door. I explained it was the dumbwaiter. That’s when she made the comment about the elevator.

I was tempted to walk around exclaiming about the tall baseboards and clean rafters and lovely chandeliers. But I restrained myself ;).

Thanks for the updates, @Marilyn. I can’t wait until the offers start rolling in.

I am looking forward to the feedback!

CB…did you have a sense these were serious lookers?? Sure hope so!!

Just finishing up now. My agent is driving around picking up the Open House signs. Very busy day, no shortage if traffic. I would say 25% neighbors who have been watching the progress and curious about the finished product. Then there were several who had just bought and were looking for ideas.

One interesting visit was a couple who had just paid $1.99mil for the listing on Trieste (Sunset Cliffs area). They were probably kicking themselves on what that money could have bought.

We had a family that has been looking in Coronado and La Jolla where same price won’t get any views. They were very interested.

We had someone come through with their agent early and he came back later with his kids. The agent has been following up with my agent with some questions.

We had 6 agents come through previewing for their clients. One is bringing their clients in the next couple of days and he kept asking “Do you have any offers yet?”

Two families came through who have looked at a ton of homes on their search but we are above their price range. They both said we are a steal compared to the other homes on the market.

Its all very exciting:)

I’m hoping Monday is a great news day!!

We have a showing tomorrow at 11am and Tuesday 10am.

Well. the more showings the better!!

My poor carpenter was working feverishly to get the main staircase handrail up before the Open House. Unfortunately people were coming through in droves up and down stairs while he was working surrounded by tools everywhere. He kept mumbling “you said I have until 1 to finish”.

He got it finished but its got putty in the joins everywhere. He was a sweetheart to understand it was important for safety. Normally I cannot get him to work on Sundays
