Installed a communications panel in laundry room and wired up the whole house with electrical, cable and Cat5 wiring
All the cable wiring goes into the box. Cat 5 wiring in main rooms go to the box. Each wire is labeled. That is where cable company can put their routers and stuff. Im not even sure what the Cat 5 is for. I don’t think anyone even uses that anymore everything is wireless
We didn’t run speaker wires anywhere because people can install wireless speakers wherever they want
Still sitting here staring at my email. It’s the hurry up and wait syndrome

Category 5 cable, commonly referred to as Cat 5, is a twisted pair cable for carrying signals. This type of cable is used in structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet.
So buyer can create a network in the house. That’s probably old school
Not old school, people still use it. More private and can be faster than wifi.
We have it in our house…still use it in one office.
Did you use cat5 or cat5e?
You should never use plain old cat5 inside the walls any more. It’s too slow. And in the future, consider using cat6.
I’m afraid I don’t know exactly what he put in the walls. Ill have to check the roll of stuff so I can answer any questions
Relax
For home use, any data quality cable is fine. There is no need to put in cat6 all copper cable or fiber optic cable. Since your device connect to the router still going to be 100mb, the difference in cable is going to make no difference.
You might want to consider running electrical conduit through the walls in the future rather than stapling the data cable inside the walls, even if it is cat 6. That way the owner can easily update the data cable that runs through the conduit as desired–we did that in our house. I think tech savvy San Diego buyers would appreciate it. Although now that we are on Fios in LA–100% fiber optic network-- our wifi is equally as fast as using a data cable. But there are still areas on the property where the wifi isn’t so strong, such as back bedrooms, making a data cable a nice to have.
Regular cat5 can only handle speeds up to about 100mb/s, many internet providers can provide much higher data rates than that right now, also regular cat5 suffers from crosstalk which can limit bandwidth even further.
Regular cat5 has been obsolete for quite a while, though, so it’s almost certainly cat5e, unless whoever did the wiring is trying to get rid of old stuff.
If you want to provide some level of future-proofing, you should really use cat6, which over short ranges (150 feet, which should be plenty for a house) can provide up to 10Gb/s of bandwidth. There are areas of San Diego where providers are currently offering 1Gb/s internet, which will push the limits of cat5e.
Count me as educated… All I know is that one of my subs told the electrician to put in router wiring and I said OK, do it. I’m not tech savvy. Did spend a lot of time trying to figure out if we should run speaker cable in some rooms but it was a nightmare trying to figure out “where do you think they are going to want speakers?” And, I didn’t want to ruin the walls or ceiling of the lovely original living room. My electrician said not to bother because they can put in wireless speakers
No news yet, still in hurry up and wait mode
We did receive an update from Tesla buyers that they are working feverishly on the complex deal
Should not have wasted their cash on those darn Teslas!
As far as speaker wire… that is obsolescence. Sonos etc. rule at the moment.
Everyone must be talking to their banks about finance letters and such.
In a big , spread out house ,a wired internet connection, with Cat6, means faster, more reliable connections- Wireless connectivity depending on where the wireless router is located and how many walls the signal has to travel through.
Ours is on one side of the house and 100 ft away, through 3 walls, wireless sucks.
menloparkmom, get a wireless extender. We just did - wow, that thing rocks! Now squirrels in the bushes by the back fence of our acre-sized yard could stream movies - if they only had computers.
Views on Zillow still 100 day but down to 1 or 2 saves a day.
I don’t think we have any showings today
Did I miss the the announcement?
