Plus doesn’t this house have a nice flat backyard…where there can be a patio, and nice seating…and a fire pit??
Ah well, just a thought. Thanks for explaining!
See CB, I’m not the only one to think of that double sided fireplace!
I may have a fireplace up on view deck in 2nd story
Today I got up on roof again. My carpenter busted a hole in roof and we measured very carefully. We will need to have a 28" cavity above 1st floor in order to gain best view. So, 2nd floor will have to start much higher than we thought which means that our roof pitch will have to be lower/less steep as the architecture in the front of the house to stay under 30’ limit. The neighbor’s Direct TV dish is a total eyesore
A gift of a 1-yr cable subscription?
We are going to call Direct TV and complain that they have to move it because it is mounted higher than 30’
is comcast or any other cable TV provider available in SD?
Cox is the cable company that is available in most of San Diego. But a lot of people are moving to Direct TV because Cox has become so expensive here. I see a lot of Direct TV dishes going up (including my house). But, for some reason they mounted the dish in a really high location on the neighbor’s house. Most of them are on the edge of the roof. But neighbor doesn’t have a sloped roof, it’s a flat roof design (so that they can get interior floors as high as possible and because it is a contemporary style).
When we were on the roof yesterday, we are convinced that the neighbor’s roof top deck wall has got to be higher than 30’. We are going to secretly shoot it with our laser level, but we have to wait until it is dark so that we can see the laser dots against their giant wall. When you stand on our roof, you can see over the southern part of the house, but the northern part of that house is a roof top deck (like they need any more view.!!.. they’ve taken all view on that hill). The roof top deck has a wall on east side (at our house) and glass panels on the western part of the deck. That wall is slightly obstructing view from our roof, so there is a portion of the 2nd story that does not have a good view.
It if turns out that they went over 30 feet, do you have any options to make them remove or lower anything? That house has been there for a number of years now.
One trick some builders do is grade around the low edge of the house, put a small wall in for a planting bed against the house and take the raised height of that planting bed as “ground level” in order to get up a few extra feet. I wouldn’t be surprised if the neighbor’s builder did something like that.
Permit Costs
Yesterday i stood in line again at City to ‘pull’ the window permit. I had to pay another $900 in fees to get it issued. That is a total of $1,650 to replace 10 windows (doors not in permit, they are going to be in the next permit). Replacing from single pane to dual pane low E windows. You’d think someone would be paying me to improve energy efficiency!!!
I am NEVER pulling a permit to change windows again!!! Had to do it this time just to trigger historical review
Regarding height… I don’t have any recourse if the house is higher than 30’, the City allowed it during the building process. But I can try to politely request that the satellite dish get placed lower.
Sold the blue hobnail glass Victorian kerosene lamp on eBay for $675. There were lots of inquiries!! Now it just needs to get packed perfectly to Michigan:)
Yippee! Sounds like a win/win. Lots of bubble wrap and those pouches that move air pockets around should keep it safe. It is a unique piece.
Wow! See that lamp WAS worth something. Wasn’t it Marilyn who suggested selling it! Woohoo.
Adding…I would take it to the UPS store…and pay to have them wrap and ship it. And inside it too.
Did you have the buyer pay shipping?
You could take it to the OB Business Center. http://www.obbusinesscenter.com/#personal
Or Postal Annex might pack and ship for you.
Yes, Marilyn provided some links that let me know that it was valuable. It sold in less than a week on eBay. Taking it to a fancy pack and ship. We provided shipping in that price, so it might end up around $625 when shipped out.
I think the buyers were most interested in the blue hobnail glass piece, not necessarily the kerosene lantern part of it
Still a nice chunk of $. Nice.
