Of the tiles lined up on the counter, I also prefer the second from the left although I would want something with more color considering the lighter tones in the rest of the kitchen. Personally not a fan of arabesque or interweave type of pattern so of the two front hall choices, I guess I’d pick the squares. But I think either of them might be too much for an entry and would want something subtler. It’s a relatively large space, right?
Thanks for the link to the glass floral tile, dfin. Very kind of you to go to the trouble! I like something along that idea – uniform color but with some sort of interest (texture, iridescence, pattern, etc). With a couple of accessories, your kitchen will have plenty of color/interest and I’d want to keep the focus on that lovely stone.
I know you and cb have a great vision and I am sure whatever you choose will look great. Best of luck to you on the decision!
What is the name of the counter again? Can you google back splash for XX counter?
What color are the cabinets? I lean towards the far left sample and wouldn’t go with a big contrast
I think that all of the back splash possibilities are too busy for this kitchen, honestly. Have you considered going with a plain clear or subtly-colored glass subway tile, that would leave the emphasis on the other elements, such as the counter tops? Pops of color can be introduced by other counter-top items, as discussed above.
A white glass subway would be lovely, IMO. Or a very, very pale aqua or a very pale green or a pale hint of another color. I would like to see something with sparkle/sheen. But then, I really like light and surfaces that bounce light around.
Although I don’t dislike the individual colors in the mixed-color glass tiles you’re considering, in combination they seem to force you into earth-tone-land. If you go with something like white glass, or a very pale color, you can bring in accessories in almost any color (leafy green, red, cobalt, pale blue or green, lemon yellow, caramel…just about anything) or color combinations (navy/lime green, grey/tangerine, pale blue/yellow, whatever!) to bring life to the space. To me, the mixed-color tiles in this particular set of options seem very limiting in terms of accent colors that would work.
In our kitchen redo, we are using 3x8 tiles as the “field” (but they don’t have the angled edges of subway tiles), and the first course of tiles, along the countertop, will have a “pencil” strip above it, and the outlets will sit above that, horizontally. We will have a different type of tile over the cook top, looks a bit like leaves, oriented vertically. They are marble.
This morning we ‘shopped’ my granite guy’s yard for:
Powder room floating vanity. Choice #1 was a stone I’ve never really seen before and Choice #2 was some more White Macaubus.
Outside countertop just outside folding window. This is trickier because it will be mounted outside just beyond the quartz countertop and sink. We cannot use quartz outside in the sun because the resin will discolor over time. So we need to select a natural stone that compliments or contrasts. Choice #1 was a gorgeous pale grey stone with some creamy veins and Choice #2 was a really nice dark soapstone that he had a big piece of. There was also a nice matte black granite but it was being cut for someone’s bbq install
I’m waiting for my guy to call back with feasibility and cost of the stone
Today’s design decision is to keep the entryway in same wood as the flooring, no tile inlay. I was worried that the tile cuts butted up to the wood flooring stair nose just would never look perfect. We are going to run the boards opposite direction as the room flooring to try to help with the safety factor to highlight the step down into the living room.
Yes but I don’t have any pictures. Unless you want a picture of boxes of tile stacked up
Powder room is getting a glass mosaic in a leaf pattern. The color of the glass is dependent on the color of the grout, or at least that’s what appears on the displays at Floor and Decor
Kitchen backsplash is actually a choice that was not in all the tile samples brought into the house. But what the tile samples did was give Dfin an idea of what she didn’t like and the styles she does like. So one more round of samples and she found a winner. Glass subway in a blue tone with some silvery texture
Tile gets installed on Saturday. We have to get it installed in order to get the range hood installed which is required for final inspection.
It depends on the type of range hood and where the tile is being installed. We are taking the tile all the way up the wall behind stove to the ceiling. The range hood is hanging independent and it’s a triangular shape at bottom. It would be a tough job to install the glass tile around the range hood outline, especially with cutting glass tile
All of the flooring is installed and the stair case nosing and risers are installed. Next up is to install the square iron balusters and the handrail. This is needed to call for final inspection
Yesterday the powder room White Macaubus countertop got installed and the outdoor soapstone countertop got installed. They are just gorgeous.
Today the tile is getting installed! This is going to really ramp up the design of the powder room and kitchen. However, it is pouring rain here today. Although we need the rain I’m not sure how long the tile guy is going to keep trying to cut tile out under a porch in the pouring rain
Fireplace got painted a soft black. It was just too washed out with white around it in the living room.
All the baseboard is installed
Upstairs powder room got some fun colored tile backsplash on the vanity and we installed a cool round wood mirror. All done!
Photos loaded. Will get some more photos loaded when the tile installation is finished

I have opera glass behind the whole wall up to ceiling behind the range hood (also triangular shape at bottom) and it also had to be installed after the tile.
“My hubby has been confused about the choices for WEEKS…"just choose something.”
Do you all let your hubbies have a say in any design choices? I never let my H be involved in any decisions. Based on things he says are nice looking, his choices would be god awful.
I did let him convince me to get a new tub in big bath (I’d been willing to keep old tub to save money since it was in perfect condition - just not a soaker.) Once he insisted on spending extra for tub, I was off to the races and threw my “budget” completely out the window. He didn’t get to choose the new tub, either.
