Looks great! I love the “rustic tile” dfin chose for the bathroom.
I do let my H have some input. It’s rare that he cares, but he does have good ideas. His mother is even better!

H won’t part with a penny on anything regarding the house with without veto power. Sure way to not get anything done!
I’ve wanted to get our kitchen remodeled since we moved into the house three years ago but figured it’s not worth getting divorced over. Even though it would be my money. DH would question and argue about everything. His idea of making decisions is for me to do all the groundwork and research and present him with choices, which are usually not exactly what he’s looking for. I finally just put my foot down on replacing two clocks that didn’t tell time accurately (the hour hand on the outdoor clock didn’t ever change, and the kitchen clock was always a few minutes slow). He figures as long as something still works, why replace it!
Getting him to move to San Diego was ten years in the making.
^Goshx2.
My husband goes along for the ride. He wants to be included…but really at the end of the day, the decisions are mine. Fortunately we have very similarly tastes.
Haha @emilybee, what I meant was that Hubby wants me to choose something, and to stop contemplating overwhelming options. He’s very supportive, and tells me almost everything I bring home looks good. He knows he can’t really tell what looks good
For the most part I make all the decisions. Usually my husband doesn’t care, but every once in a while he has strong opinions. For example, he was adamant that the front door not have any windows. Also he likes a double sink in the kitchen.
My DH is happy for me to make most decisions, but does like having veto power if he can’t stand a choice. We bought a new frig a few years ago, he despised the slow ice dispenser. It was replaced under warranty, allowing us to choose any frig in the store. I took him with me and he agreed that the one I chose actually was the best one, so we got the same one again, but now he does not complain about the ice maker slowness
@dfin2013, oh, I got that. I was just wondering how everyone handles husbands when renovating.
My H knows he couldn’t really do it, also.
I never have any problem choosing. I pretty much know exactly how I want it all to look. The hard part is finding exactly what I envision in my mind.
My H and I used to do a lot of weekend warrior projects. I always had crazy ideas how I wanted something. Of course there never was a picture or diagram available because I had a vision. I can envision the look and feel I want and he just cannot.
For many years he would try to argue “that can’t be done” or “that won’t work”, not because of cost reasons because we were always on the cheap DIY. But more that he didn’t really understand the end design and I was always coming up with complicated things. He used to think he had a say in colors or design. He gave up many years ago. About the time I made him paint the family room three times because it wasn’t the perfect pale “butter” color I wanted.
I don’t even bother him with decisions nowadays. If it was up to him we’d probably live in a glorified tent or camper van. He doesn’t know the difference betweenn Wow, that is gorgeous and makes a “statement” versus That’s Hideous and so 90s because, of course, I was raving about that other thing in the early 90s:)
I may have the most hands off husband out there when it comes to houses and design decision. 3 years ago we built our future retirement home in FL. 14 months of construction and 2 years of architecture and cabinet design before that. He agreed to meet the builder once before signing the contract and said to the builder at that time “you won’t see me again until you hand us the keys to the house. I believe in delegation and this is something you and my wife can handle” And he was true to his word…didn’t see the house until it was finished. Boy was I nervous. What if he trusted me with all that money and he doesn’t like it? Thank goodness he loves it and said it was even nicer than he was expecting.
There were a few times I would have liked his opinion when I was really torn about a decision. But mostly I feel very fortunate that I was able to make decisions along with the design team without having to run everything past him.
I think Mr. B will leave everyone in the dust when it comes bring hands off about design choices. It drives me insane sometimes because I am always the one who in the end makes those “executive decisions.”
He rarely vetoes anything… the only thing that he had opposed was the master bed decorated with multiple pillows.
@Marilyn, DH also wants me to do all the legwork and offer choices. He has expected PowerPoint presentations in the past! I think the underlying issue is that he can’t visualize the changes, which frustrates him. Of course, he doesn’t want to admit he can’t “see” it, esp since I can. (I’m very, very visual and following these threads gas taught me so much.) OTOH, he would probably trust a professional who told him X color cabinets don’t go with Y tile, but he’s not prepared to pay for the expertise.
Wow, so much husband-bashing. :-< :-w
Some of us aren’t that pathetic when it comes to this stuff. [-(
My H and D can “see” and visualize better than I or S. Sadly H is colorblind, so he’s not good to ask about colors—at all.
In our family, the rule is the person who cares the most about the purchase does the research and unless there are serious issues with the proposed purchase, everyone else smiles and nods. H does a lot of research about appliances and I do most of the research about travel.
We rarely acquire furniture or change much decor and do very little remodeling or repairs.
@notrichenough, one of my BILs is fabulous at this stuff. He and my sister the designer make a great team and have redone most of their house. Just wish I had the same level of support!
@notrichenough My hubby has been a star throughout the whole process. I’m the indecisive one! No husband bashing intended
The backsplash looks amazing! The cabinet pulls should be here on Wednesday, so the kitchen will be all dressed up and ready for a photo shoot.
So glad you like the backsplash.
Do we have a picture of the kitchen backsplash?
