Flip This House - My Own Home

All indoor NG piping is above ground and can’t be plastic in my neck of the woods. CA can be different.

Interesting. Around here, the mains and service line are all being replaced with plastic, and you can have plastic inside the house.

I have seen the flex poly gas line stuff sold a lot around here, but I believe it is meant for attics and inside walls. I have seen it installed in a crawlspace once. I personally don’t know if it is allowed to be in crawl space for building code. However my crawl space is vented and gets the same salt moisture that eats through everything at my house. My two skilled guys refuse to use the stuff, probably because they are old school, and it requires a set of expensive tools for crimping and installing the stuff.

We had a really bad experience with that stuff once. I thought I would get smart and hire an independent plumber to put new gas lines for the Hoarder House in order to move progress along. The guy ran the poly flex gas lines, then disappeared. We could not get it to hold pressure and test properly. Of course the guy was nowhere to be found when I called and called. Had to hire an independent leak detection service who spent 4 hrs looking for the gas leak. It was not in the joins and the poly flex was compromised somewhere inside the line. In the end, my lead tore the whole thing out and ran new gas lines in one day. Never again

The trench was for running electric in conduit down from the main panel on garage. Wasn’t for gas lines

I would not be happy with plastic gas lines in my house. I will ask the kid builder who is building his dream home on our street about the recent gas line codes. I bet he is not going to use plastic for his own abode!

As a chemist, I can see all sorts of problems with running NG, a mixture of hydrocarbons, through plastic. As a homeowner, I would be terrified to accidentally put a hole in my gas line while putting a screw through the wall…

Hope CB’s project is moving along!

PROGRESS UPDATE AND TILE SAMPLES

We have been finishing the details in the back bath and kitchen. Installed the bathroom door, finished tying up all the electrical and the exterior panel. Received the stacking washer/dryer (GE Gas 24" wide stacking) and punched the dryer vent and gas valves needed for the washer/dryer. Final stages of drywall mudding and sanding and finished the Denshield and Red Guard on the shower walls. We start tiling the shower tomorrow.

As mentioned before, I have boxes and boxes of handmade very expensive subway tile that people have given me as leftovers from their projects. I have 60 square feet of something someone waited 8 weeks for delivery for a project in Rancho Santa Fe. They obviously ordered way too much tile! I have never been able to use this stuff because 60 sq ft is just not enough for a whole shower or some other project. But, I’m combining the big thick tile onto the large back wall of the shower with the smaller handmade tile on the side walls. So, I am working on what I need to get for the shower floor.

I loaded some photos of the finalists for shower floor tile. I am leaning towards keeping it in the white family to make the bathroom appear larger and brighter. Now that the drywall is installed, everything is closing in and getting pretty crowded

I’d go with the lightest, brightest combo, the 4th photo. We love light and bright to help our small home appear larger and more airy.

I like the white herringbone also. Leaving it all white gives you more flexibility for the bathroom floor - forgot if you made a choice on that? Three different sizes of tiles gives enough visual variety for the shower itself.

I also like the herringbone - there’s something striking to me about the tiles having the same shape, same color but bringing in interest with different sizes and orientations.

I like the blue. I like that it ties in the blue vanity. I think too much white is…boring.

But then…I really like blue.

I would not want that white on the floor of my shower.

For me the blue is a happy and fun choice. It adds a little zest.

The inside of the shower is small and separated from the rest of the bathroom by the shower walls, so I don’t think some color there would be an issue. So I would go with the blue.

Penny tile is not my favorite, maybe go for something with a little more visual interest such as

or a basket weave with some blue color in it:

@notrichenough that basketweave tile is really cool

We found that blue tile is actually somewhat hard to find. We wanted a deep blue for our kitchen backsplash in our Cape Cod house, and would up getting a custom-ordered hand-glazed tile because we couldn’t find the color anywhere else:

Cb doesn’t have the time frame to go this route, it took over two months to get it. And it wasn’t cheap either.

I thought all the variations of tile were already in hand from prior job ‘leftovers’.

I do need to purchase the shower floor tile. It’s the only tile I don’t have from other jobs, but only need 16 sq ft. We’re laying the bathroom floor now and I’m going to analyze dark against light tomorrow morning

I vote for the blue tile. Let us know what you decide!

I’ve found that dark shower tile is much more difficult to keep looking clean than light tile. Darker tiles show more soap scum. I’d go with the white herringbone or one of the other pale tiles. Whatever you choose, I know it will look great!

@zipyourlips I totally agree! I put darker tile in my shower floor thinking it would cut down cleaning worries and it turned out to be the only part of the whole bathroom that gives me trouble. I also like the white herringbone.

I absolutely love your blue tile however I think have the contrast in colors will make your space look smaller. I’m also in the camp that you will see the soap scum much more.

Could you use the blue as a border feature on the shower walls?
