It’s probably the lighting or the camera, but the flooring seems to have a bit of a pinkish tinge to it. Is that the case?
Everything is looking good!
How wide it the fridge nook, it looks pretty narrow.

The refrigerator nook is 24" for a special tall skinny refrigerator.
Don’t k now why the floor looks pink in the photos. It actually has a touch of yellow undertone, which I don’t really like much. My favorite color (which was installed in many previous projects) was out of stock so I had to go with my 2nd favorite color.
@coralbrook would you be will to share the brand 24 inch washer and dryer you bought?
Here is the skinny refrigerator I bought. Not the sexiest refrigerator but the fancy ones were over $1,000 and I just don’t need to spend that for a studio apartment rental
For the washer/dryer, I had a key issue. 99% of the 24" wide stacking washer/dryer units are electric and require a 220 outlet. I did not have enough juice to pull a new 220 outlet to the location, so I wanted a gas dryer. This is the only unit I could find that had a gas dryer. It was listed for about $1,350 but I ran my pro order through the ‘bid’ room and it miraculously came back at $1,050 so I purchased it
Next week’s issue is going to be trying to find the right shower glass door. After careful measurement, I just don’t think I can have a swinging pivot glass door on the shower because it will keep hitting the toilet. It’s hard to tell a renter to ONLY open the door inward to the shower, since the doors pivot in or out. Just like with my french doors which I had to give up, I think I am going to have to install the old school sliding glass shower doors.
My bigger issue is that the shower, after tile installation, ended up 49" wide. Well, of course you can purchase 43"-48" adjustable glass door kit or a 54" - 60" wide glass door kit. If I buy the larger kit, the door will overlap at least 11 inches and make it impossible to fit through the left hand opening. If I purchase the 48" wide kit I run the risk of having a stupid looking gap in the middle of the two glass doors.
Two choices… pay for expensive custom glass doors or try to make the 48" one fit. Guess which option I chose ! We will probably spend way too much money trying to shim up one side of these doors
Well, at least I got the ’ good looking ‘contemporary’ barn door style for the shower. We’ll see if we can make it work.
What about a doorless shower, just use a large pane of stationery glass along side of the toilet ant the opening away from the water source?
Thanks @coralbrook
I was actually looking at separate pieces…not a stacked one piece. Today I saw Bosch and one other…that could stack. 24 inches.
Don’t know what your budget is, but Home Depot has glass door sets in 48-52" or 50-54":
Expensive frameless:
Cheaper with a frame:
I assume other companies have similar options…
Thanks for the links. I was fishing around the store and could only find the 48 one that I liked (similar to first link). If it doesn’t work, I’m going to return it and have to order one online for delivery
I’m worried that a single piece of glass might not work because the shower is only 49 wide, so stationary panel could only be 24” wide. I’m not sure that’s enough coverage to stop all the spray from going out and getting everything wet. Most showers that replace a tub are 60 wide, but had to squeeze that washer/dryer in there:)
PROGRESS UPDATE
Well, it’s been 5 weeks and I cannot figure out why we are not done yet:) Might have something to do with the fact that we had to rewire and replumb the entire back area! And install a new water heater and sub panel. That literally took 3 weeks.
But, we are moving along with installing everything into the bathroom. Because the space is so small we have to work from the back of the room forward. So, washer/dryer is installed with gas valve, gas lines, water lines and dryer vent hooked up. Then shower fixtures got installed and the lighting. Now we are working on the glass shower door and we will work our way outward.
Unfortunately, the new bathroom window has never showed up. All the other windows and door showed up but that one was missing. It has been a comedy of errors from Jeld Wen with a lot of ‘false’ deliveries to Home Depot. The receiving crew accidentally marked it as received and I get continuous notifications to ‘pick up’ my merchandise. JeldWen keeps claiming it is going to be delivered ‘tomorrow’ but the truck never shows up. Meanwhile, I have a gaping hole in the bathroom and it would be a lot easier to install the window and trim it in before the toilet and vanity get installed.
I’m up to about $27,000 so far for the studio, bathroom, kitchen. But that includes the kitchen cabinet purchase. The only thing left is to purchase the microwave/convection over the range unit, countertop and kitchen faucet. But, lots more labor cost getting it all installed! And still have to build covered patio
At this rate it is going to be about 18 months of rent before I break even! Right now it doesn’t sound like a very good financial decision
Loaded some photos
18 months isn’t too bad. And, you’ve added value to your property!
Excellent! Except I would have opted for a front load washer because these miniature top loaders are clothes killers. Love the patio door and chrome bath fixtures.
It’s looking great and I certainly think it’s a worthwhile investment. Thanks for keeping us posted!
Huh?
I dont see any new pictures.
in fact, all the recent photos showing the “wrong way” herringbone tile are missing too.
All photos are still there.
There’s seven new pictures today.

weird. I’m on firefox and have never had this problem with flicker before. And I just refreshed the page twice.
as well as closing out and reopening the URL.
same problem.
fixed!
PM me the link you are using.
I am on the fence on whether adding a studio apartment with rental potential is the right investment in my neighborhood. Anywhere else, Yes. Many young first time buyers would want the rental income potential to offset mortgage payments and/or buyers with extended family (which is a large untapped pool of buyers in San Diego) and/or someone purchasing as a rental investment property or something like that. I don’t think any of that applies in my neighborhood.
I am assuming anyone that buys this house will just knock it down and build something new. So all of this investment is worthless in their minds
