Flip This House - My Own Home

From the pictures I like the one you say is picking up a beige hue. Kind of like the sand dunes.

CB, I like your choice of paint. The white trim looks great, and while I was initially reluctant about painting the ceilings, I think it was a good decision! The place looks so much more open and bright. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

What would be a good choice of paint if I wanted to install green marble for the floor of the master bath?

Green marble is difficult to complement. Are you referring to the dark green/black marble tiles?? Or a lighter hue towards pale green or teal? I don’t want to dissuade you from something you love but the dark green marble 12 x 12 tiles are very outdated, from the 90s. It will not help resale value of your home. Also a dark floor in your bathroom will make it appear smaller.

But, if you really want them, paint color would have to be a very pale color to offset the dark floors.

Here are a couple of paint swatches to try:

All Behr at Home Depot
Canyon Wind
Minimalist
Painters White (this might be too pink against the green)

Any pale beige that strikes your fancy. Stay away from a green hue or red/pink hue

What would be a good color for marble tiles? Dark green was just an idea for me.

@MoonKnight: Mosey over to the thread called Home Improvement and ask your questions there. (I’d post the link to it but in this new format . . . . Well, you know.)

I doubt a high school kid has a house to improve.

I really like how the covered patio turned out!

I’m not sure if it’s the lighting in the picture but there looks to be a very pale gray with some soft blue undertones - I like that one ; )

Unfortunately the very pale grey is really a soft white that got painted over the dark grey so it’s not true to color. One is Behr Canyon Wind (Light) and the beige grey is Sherwin Williams Passive

@BunsenBurner I don’t want to improve it at the moment. I just want some ideas for the future. As you can see, I do a lot of planning and thinking about the future.

@MoonKnight here is the home improvement thread.

Thanks. @thumper1

I love the white ceiling and trim. The wave is very eye catching and I’m sure you can figure out the right paint to accent it. I can’t wait to see your next choices! Lovely cottage!!

Well, I picked my wall color and the bathroom painting is all done. In the end I think it is a little too dark (I tried to cut it down but it still looks dark to me) and it is turning ‘blue’ in the space. The bathroom gets a lot of natural light from two windows, although those windows now need to be covered with privacy film because of the new construction next door. I used the leftover large white marble to cut for 6" tall baseboards in the bathroom. I went a little too girly with the sconces on one side of the bathroom, but I can always change those later if I decide I don’t like them. They can get moved to the master bedroom which needs some wall sconces.

Glass is installed, toilet installed, one set of lights installed and some fixtures installed. Here is what we still have left to complete:
Customize cabinets and install
Select countertop and install
Install all final fixtures
Mirrors and vanity lights

All I have left to purchase is
Countertop material
Mirrors

Everything else is picked out!!

Total cost, including an estimate for the remaining materials and labor is:
$15,500

Photos loaded… also got the turquoise tile installed in the studio kitchen

Wow, that shower is spectacular! I love the floor tile running throughout the bath. Your ability to manage a budget is remarkable given the high-end finishes and look you’ve achieved.

Turquoise tile backsplash in the studio kitchen is nice. Good call not going with one of the busier options there.

Thanks for the update and photos! Happy 4th to you.

Beautiful! Love it all!!!

Gorgeous! Good call on the tile in the kitchenette!

The kitchen tile is nice, and the bathroom looks great!

Have to say I am not a fan of having the microwave so close to the cooktop. I am tall and find it to be awkward to see and reach the back. In many places I think this would violate building code, which often specify 24" or more of space above the cooktop. I know there’s not much cabinet space, so it’s a compromise I guess.

After working in the kitchen awhile I don’t like any of the cabinets or microwave that are above the countertop. I have been working in a kitchen for over 20 yrs with no upper cabinets and I am not used to it. But, needed the storage in the space or would have had to put in open shelves. I also discovered I have an bad habit of leaving the doors open on the uppers because I don’t have them in my kitchen.

The microwave is mounted per mfr requirements but I think it’s low also. If you look closely at the left ceiling of the little kitchen you can see that we had to start the uppers at the dropped side which is really only 90 high. I think the microwave could have been 6” higher if we had a higher ceiling

I like the bathroom paint, it really pops the wavy accent tile.
I also really, really like the kitchen backsplash. It adds just the right amount of interest.
