Built in cat sitter is gold!
We are lucky that kid and her BF don’t mind coming over to take care of our (her) cats. But now they have their own cat and their own (our) “pad,” so they are less tempted to airbnb at our place while we are gone.
The best way to find a built in cat sitter is to advertise in rental ads that you accept cats (but not dogs LOL). Years back when we rented VRBO with our cat, we were very limited in our choices. And look how sweet she was!
Marilyn - ?
?!!!
Bunsen, that was her 20th birthday picture. She subsequently moved out here with us but had many senior health issues, and we had to say goodbye several months later. Hey cb, I can cat sit!
She was a real cutie.
And 20 years - wow. She had a great life!
@Marilyn - your girl was adorable! It’s been almost 3 years since we said goodbye to our almost 20 year old kitty. Now we have the two silly sister cats in my avatar. With our youngest D moving to OB next month we lose our built in cat sitter!
Your feline girls are adorable.
All kitties are adorable!
We tried adopting another cat a couple of years ago but it turned out I was quite allergic to him. He was a true sweetheart but we had to give him back. Never had a problem with our tabby.
Sorry, we’ve been going OT!
OT but not by much! Cats are important part of RE considerations! We always looked where we could hide their litter boxes.
Yeah cb, make sure there’s a nook or cranny for the litter box!
Sure… I’ll just remove some storage for a litter box… Not:)
We are moving along. I loaded some more photos. This is what we are going to accomplish this week:
Remove plants and overgrown bushes from front of rental unit to open up the view
Many many dump runs!
Build out laundry and shower
Plumb in new tankless water heater and reverse the hot and cold lines to run from new water heater
Plumb and drains for shower, toilet (moving it 2 inches away from shower to make it easier to get in/out of shower) and 36" vanity (lines have to move up and a little to left for new vanity)
Mud/sand/prime the new soundproofing and drywall where we closed the door and soundproofed in the adjoining bedroom
Waterproof shower and shower pan
Run new 3/4" gas line to tankless water heater. Because the tankless water heater is more than 30ft away from the gas meter, some lucky person gets to crawl under the house and run a full new 3/4" gas line to the other side of the house. Good luck with that!!
New electrical for laundry and kitchen area
Order new french door, windows and doors
Purchase washer/dryer to make sure that we are putting the plumbing, drain, electrical and exterior vent in the right locations
So this means I need to rush out and get a washer and dryer just so we can carefully look at the back of the thing and then it will sit in the garage for 4 weeks
Good progress! The view is amazing.
Beautiful view!
You are not worried about corrosion of the tankless water heater from open exposure to sea air and the elements?
I’m not too worried about it, it is supposed to be weather proof. We will see. But that’s a very good question. I have no choice but to pull my main water heater out to get a kitchenette into the space. I might build an exterior water heater closet to keep feeding the rest of the house, but it will have the same issues.
We were going to build a little weather proof housing, but the instructions say Warning!! Warning!! do not place near overhang or other objects. Pretty sure ‘other objects’ includes an entire housing
I think the issue with overhangs is that it could trap combustion gases and funnel them into a window or otherwise inside the house. I don’t think that’s a problem in that location. As long as a housing doesn’t cause it to overheat or impede the airflow, I don’t think there’s a problem. But it’s not my house, so…
Well… #$&*()’l insert lots of big swear words here!!
Nothing is fun and simple. Today my new electrician guy came over and we walked through all the cool stuff I want in the back room, which, by the way, does NOT include drawer lights. We go to the sub panel feeding my house and there isn’t enough room to add the circuits I need. So we go out to the meter where I have a new upgraded panel. I discover a big 50 amp circuit that we put in for ‘future spa’. Not going to have one of those!! Don’t need any more things to maintain. But the wires for supposed future spa are trenched under all my landscaping in back yard to the opposite end of the house out by the pool.
This means I am going to have to install an above ground junction box and trench down through the yard east/west to a new small sub panel I am going to have to mount on the back of the house, because I don’t want to trench across the whole yard. Then we have to pull a new huge wire underneath the house running north/south (no attic in middle of the house because of vaulted ceilings) to another sub panel we have to put inside the back unit where we will break out the dedicated circuits. Did I mention it’s going to take a SAP (smallest available person) to try to shimmy on their belly under the house?
Well, once again, there goes the budget. Plus we have to upgrade the gas line under the house for the new tankless water heater. Regular water heater only needs a 1/2” gas line but the tankless, because it is located 50 ft from the gas meter, has to be at least 3/4”. We can see 3/4 coming into the house at the meter but we have no idea where it downsizes to 1/2” under the house. Another job for the SAP.
So sorry @coralbrook! That’s the worst part about renovations - the surprises
Rats. I feel your pain!!! I was just about to ask if you had enough spare circuits in your panel for all of the kitchenette and w/d stuff!
That wire by itself could be hundreds of buckaroos easily. We have a similar 50amp circuit for a “hot tub.” Mr priced the wire to run to the detached garage for a Tesla charger… lets say the $500 wire quote from HD made him less enthused about that project. The Tesla still gets plugged into 110 outlet, ?.
