Are people we know on this forum all right? Specifically, Momrath and others, I forget their names…

Robyrm as well…I don’t know if she is in Jakarta either. Usually affluent people are not affected but the pictures look awful.

Thanks for asking, Achat. It’s worse than the pictures.

Jakarta is underwater, in some areas a few inches, in some several feet. Roads are inundated, electricity and telephones (and internet) are down, families are marooned. Hundreds of thousands of people – nobody knows how many – are affected and the government? What government? This is urban paralysis at the most unfathomable low.

The wealthy arw affected as well as the poor, but of course those with money have been able to check into hotels or stay with friends in equally comfortable surroundings. A great many people simply have no where to go but the most abysmal of shelters.

It’s eerie; you drive by a familiar neighborhood and see people wading through waist deep water, like figures in a dream. Javanese are stoic to the extreme. You hear a lot about God’s will when these kind of disasters happen, but come on, God, cut these poor souls some slack!

Our house is fine, but we’re going to be untangling problems related to the business for months to come.

The problem is it’s STILL raining

momrath~

I am so very sorry to hear about this. I’m very glad that your home was spared, and I wish you luck in dealing with the problems related to your business. It sounds like it’s going to be LONG road to recovery for the area, made all the worse by the ineffective gov’t. sigh

My college roomie is from Jakarta…I really hope she and her family are O.K. as well.

{{{{hugs to you and yours}}}} My thoughts are with you and with all of those affected in Indonesia.

love, ~berurah

Love to you momrath, and to robyrm too!!!

Jeez, I did not check back on this thread until now. Hope your business is fine now Momrath. Sorry to hear about all the trouble you and your family had to go through. You are right about asking ‘What Government’. I hear that from other parts of the world as well…including the US after Katrina!
