floor for writing score?

Retook my SAT I in May, ended up with

800CR
800M
680W (8 for Essay)

All in all a rather decent score, but I’m afraid that I’ll be looked at against a benchmark for internationals and especially for Singaporeans- we really own standardised testing. Most of my target schools are within the 8th-18th USNews range (i.e. looking beyond HYPSM).

If the score as a whole were considered, I’d have no qualms about keeping it- I’m frankly quite sick of preparing and taking; my concern, however, is that my chances will be dented because of a particularly bad score in one section. I’ve checked the 25-75 range of writing scores for top colleges, and I’m nearly always around the edge. Is there any foundation to my fear?

If you’re within the 25-75 range, I think you’ll be fine. Assuming all of your other stats are good, you should get into at least one school (8-18) that you apply to. Plus, CR and M are the most important sections.

a lot of american schools dont even count the writing yet, because there isn’t enough data yet on how kids who score well on it preform in college
