I’m thinking of sending this to Florida State because it is my top choice school and I really would like to be accepted.
Feedback is encouraged, please! Thank you SO much.
Even before I had reached the Florida State campus, I knew it would be the school where I would one day find myself. With amiable faculty, elite students, and prestigious alumni, what could there be to abhor from FSU?
The values enforced by the University represent more than just the three little words, “Strength, Skill and Character,” but they prove to demonstrate a profound way of life for each graduate to carry on with themselves there afterwards.
I admire the attitude shared throughout the campus, and would be elated to join an atmosphere filled with the enlightened perspectives of those who believe in the tradition of the Florida State University. But what could I personally bring to the Florida State University, that could stand out to prove to the Admission’s Office, or let alone myself, that this is where I truly feel I’m meant to be?
I’ve heard the story before and sure, it sounded frightening, but here I am now 17 years later, proofreading my supplemental essay for my dream school in the security of my own home. This simple thought is often overlooked, especially through the stressful time in a kid’s life where they’re torn between adolescence and independence.
All I hear from my friends’ experiences about the process of choosing a college is the stress of it all. There’s applications, deadlines, acceptance rates, tuition, and the curiosity of what’s headed their way. But why is that? I believe it could be for a variety of reasons. People could become worried if they believe they aren’t good enough, intimidated when they’re exposed to a whole new atmosphere, or question if they are headed in the right direction. Similarly, most people have had these thoughts regarding college, or any new life experience for that matter.
Little do I know about the real world myself, I couldn’t write an essay regarding my knowledge towards something so out of reach, but I do know how comforting it is to realize that out of this whole world of diverse and opinionated people, we’ve all come to question the same thing, faith.
When I was born, I was born with a breathing problem. My twin sister and I were two months premature and about 4 pounds each. My dad name to me Faith because for a couple of hours there, it was questionable if I was going to live. Fortunately, I can say it sounds worse than it actually was, because I’m doing great today. I can only imagine the type of anxiety the slowly passing moments were, but they make me constantly remember a virtue that is now a little part of who I am.
To live with faith can be interpreted in a variety of ways. One can live faithfully through religion, chose to put faith in themselves, be faithful to their significant other, or have faith in their family, friends, or any group of people, but the underlying factor through all of this is the passion that is put into the conscious decision one can make to have faith.
When I live with faith in my life it’s all of who I am. There is no one scenario that I’ll sum up my existence, but a little instances I try and make my faith known every day. At a swim meet when I feel nervous before a race, and I’m standing behind the blocks at the pool when there’s only a couple more heats until I’m thrown into the water, I think to myself, “Wow, this has to be the hardest thing about competing. Facing competition with a smile and going headstrong into a race.” The mentality of it is much stronger than any results and can push you through so much more than just at race. All of what I’ve made myself apart of has shaped my faith. Every new experience, every leadership role, every audition, race, performance, etc. I will stand up for the ones who are struggling to find faith in themselves, and remind them to keep it when it’s wavering, because I know exactly how it’s like to feel it slipping.
When choosing the Florida State University, I’m putting my faith into a school that’ll encourage me to be all that I am, and push me every day to become the best version of Faith. (Punny!)
And before you question, “Is your sister’s name Hope?” Her name is Nicole, and she is perfectly healthy and grateful for it as I am.
OK the end I hope you all liked it any feedback negative or positive would be completely helpful and acknowledged. Thanks again!
