Florida v. Zimmerman

And you have proof of that allegation?

"The only reason Zimmerman was charged was because of political pressure.
The police found no evidence to contradict Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. "

Only reason? And political? One of the lead investigators wanted to arrest him then and there but was told not to.

Speaking of racial tensions in Florida, may I recommend the book “The Warmth of Other Suns” as being noteworthy?

poetgirl, Chicago has some of the nation’s toughest restrictions on guns. How is that working out?

The fact is, increasing gun ownership DECREASES crime.

[Interview with John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime](http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/493636.html)

Could the rest of us just please ignore the trolls and carry on with the discussion at hand? I would hate for this thread to be closed. I appreciate our varied points of view, and the links to legal and technical sites.

riprorin, I think you are mistaking me, as Zimmerman did, for somebody else.

Perhaps you think I am against the 2nd amendment?

I’m not.

But, let me tell you something, the gun owners I know are much more disgusted by the way Zimmerman acted than I am. Responsible gun ownership requires restraint and good judgement.

But, you are spoiling for some bizarre racial or 2nd amendment fight, here, and my problem with Zimmerman and what happened just isn’t going to fall into that wheelhouse. My problem is with instigating a confrontation and killing someone and then calling it legal. To me, this is murder.

This has everything to do with Duke Lacrosse. A prosecutor attempting to try a case in spite of the evidence due to political and media pressure resulting from a supposed white on black crime.

JonoWono, there is no question that Zimmerman shot Martin.

none.

Jonowono, there was no victim in North Carolina. Trayvon Martin was unquestionably shot dead bymgeorge Zimmerman. Therefore the legal process must play out.

And because Martin’s family falsely alleged racism by Zimmerman and the police.

His father is not a judge and never was a judge. His father was a magistrate and is retired. Zimmerman falsely claimed that his father was once a judge.

Many of Martin’s backers said Zimmerman wasn’t arrested because he was white even though he is hispanic.

Shooting someone in self defence is not a crime. Watch that dershowitz clip I posted. There is according to him “no evidence in this case that a crime was committed”

none

"This has everything to do with Duke Lacrosse. A prosecutor attempting to try a case in spite of the evidence due to political and media pressure resulting from a supposed white on black crime. "

Are you saying that any case that you disagree with the prosecutor position has everything to do with Duke Lacrosse case?

ttparent, it’s not just me spewing my racist views here.

Numerous legal experts have commented that the level of proof against zimmerman does not even reach the level of probable cause. That’s an absurdly low level to reach. Trying to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt when you don’t have the evidence to prove probable cause calls into question the prosecutor’s motives.

And I think those motives are mighty similar to Duke Lacrosse.

“My problem is with instigating a confrontation and killing someone and then calling it legal. To me, this is murder.”

Once again, the police investigation found no evidence to contradict Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. Politics is a poor reason to charge a man with a crime.

An unarmed 17 year old by was shot walking home from the convenience store.

The story told by Zimmerman does not match with where the body was found. At the very least, there were problems with the investigation. At the most, there was interference by his father the judge.

Trayvon Martin’s life is over. He did not follow Zimmerman with a hot gun.

Comparing this to Duke Lacrosse shows some serious lack of critical thinking. There are many experts who believe the investigation was mishandled. there are others who believe he will be convicted of a lesser charge. Others believe he will not be convicted and will be found innocent.

The trial will play out. Trayvon Martin’s death deserves a trial. He lost his life for nothing.

Can we please stop with Duke lacrosse and the other ■■■■■ comments.

zoosermom, thanks for the book rec. I have heard of it but haven’t read it.

the basic fact is that the lead homicide investigator thought he should be arrested.

You are so bias I don’t even know where to start. There are experts on both sides, at least on all the shows I saw. There is a trial and it is presumptuous of you to suggest that this is simply Duke Lacrosse episode. In that case, the prosecutors were actually reprimanded and for good reasons due to how they conducted themselves. How is this the same thing?

"Once again, the police investigation found no evidence to contradict Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. Politics is a poor reason to charge a man with a crime. "

There are plenty of evidences. Look and keep an open mind before you say something you don’t really know. There is a trial, not all the evidences are presented yet.

It isn’t the same thing at all. It IS just a hungry ■■■■■.(Response to #778 ttparent asking how this trial is anything like the Duke trial.)

Things move pretty fast around here when there are trolls to feed.

(Not implying that ttparent is a ■■■■■.)
