^ MG - It was sarcasm, and I’ve already slapped mini’s wrist for the transgression.

(Yes it’s true. There are so many deer in CT that the State had resorted to organized hunts to reduce the number.)

^ MG - It was sarcasm, and I’ve already slapped mini’s wrist for the transgression.

(Yes it’s true. There are so many deer in CT that the State had resorted to organized hunts to reduce the number.)

Missed the sarcasm too so now I am revising my post. Carry on…

Sally, I was referring one your posts a few posts before my comment.

“We also have no proof that GZ didn’t flash his gun at TM. That would seem provoking to me.”
^this one. No where has this scenario been brought into evidence.

If that scenario happened (which there is no evidence presented to support it), do you really think someone would turn around and punch someone with a gun? It makes no sense.

Again, it’s obvious Z is a jerk. You can’t convict a guy for being a jerk. Whatever the outcome, it will be based on evidence presented and evaluated by the sequestered jury which is listening/watching the evidence being presented without any media interpretations/opinions.

“Florida is gun crazy.”

I wouldn’t go that far. I’d say the FL is Law-and-Order crazy, and minimizes Court workload by legalizing “blame the victim” defenses.

(No, of course I don’t believe that. I just don’t like the word “crazy” used in discussions.)

Florida is one of the 6 US states that bans open/disclosed carry. California, Illinois, Texas, Florida, South Carolina and New York are the 6.

Does that make the rest of the States gun crazy?

“Mini - My grandparents owned a small farm with some woods. The deer ate part of the corn every year. The deer that we killed helped feed our family. While I think shooting animals in order to mount their head on a wall is wrong. Killing deer to eat is no different than buying a chicken the local grocery store.”

Where did you get the idea that I am anti-hunting? I’m not. Really, I’m not. Though I think it would be more sporting if people got to use bows and arrows, and animals could effectively “Stand Your Ground.” I think hunting is likely far better than unethical factory farming. We do what we have to do, and I’m glad your family found an effective way of feeding themselves. Killing deer to eat is BETTER than buying chemical-laced chicken at the local grocery story.

Florida courtrooms are clogged to the ceilings with criminal cases…so much of it is tied to drugs.

nysmile, I don’t think it will be possible to find evidence to support that idea. Speculating on what might have happened and what is legally admissible are two different things. I get that. I also get that GZ is a jerk who may walk. I hope he is at least convicted of manslaughter.

so what do you guys think about the fact that GZ lied about never having heard about SYG laws until after the shooting which was disproved earlier by his professor.

do we think his his lies demonstrate anything about his character?

Umm, could have been because you called a rifle a “Bambi killer”.

But rifles are Bambi killers…

…Didn’t you see the movie? :D

[Aside to my compatriots here on CC]

I’m actually very pleased with how discussions on this thread have transpired. Opinions on what may have occurred that night still differ. But a solid baseline has been established. Thanks to all for your contributions. I have to go slay a few dragons now, so I’ll leave continuing discussion in your capable hands.

It’s possible to keep guns safely in your home. There are things called trigger locks, for example, or lock up the ammo. You can also teach your kids gun safety.

When I was a kid I had a neighbor friend whose father was a policeman. I recall playing in her parents room and there was a handgun under the bed. She made it very clear not to touch it. I don’t remember our exact age but we were around 7 - 10.

NH:…with a rifle or a blunt object? :)

Was there any testimony or documentary evidence today that self defense or SYG was on any test that GZ took in the class? Was attendance taken? Was there any testimony that GZ was in class for any of the discussions? I have not heard anything on this one way or the other.

Defense attorneys seem to mention in closing where there are gaps in the circumstantial evidence.

Is there a summary or a post number I can refer back to? I don’t want to read the past 20 pages I missed. Por favor.

I brought up the number of people killed by rifles vs hammers/clubs in response to a post about an Ethopian being shocked to see guns (rifles I presume) at a sporting goods store.

Thanks Rip. So, I guess I missed nothing. I thought there was some sort of consensus about the case.

Yeah I think it’d more accurate to say two solid baselines have been established with the anti Zimmerman having more adherents on this thread. A few issues aren’t in perpetual dispute but mostly there is still a good deal of disagreement.

There is a federal data base that all background checks tap into, so there is no conflict between state lines on background checks. [FBI ? Gun Checks/NICS](Firearms Checks (NICS) — FBI)

I can’t verify for all states, but the states I’ve hunted in requires all the meat to be taken off the carcass. It’s illegal to just take the antlers/horns. Other countries aren’t the same.

Poetgrl-I agreed very much with your assessment of how most hunters approach guns responsibly. As far as not allowing guns in your house, you are not in the majority. Of course guns are so common where I live, that there isn’t much fascination with them. Most people I know are much more comfortable then your husband and his friends are. Not complacent, just much more comfortable with having them around more then you probably are.

The friends who I stopped going hunting/shooting with were always the ones who had minimal experience with guns. I had a buddy point an unloaded bb gun at me playing around once and then tell me it isn’t loaded. I stopped hanging around him, every person who ever shot someone immediately says they thought the safety was on, or I thought it wasn’t loaded. I grew up in a house that had guns in several places unlocked. My father never gave me a more stern look than when he told me to never touch any of them. I did everything I wasn’t supposed to as a child, but I never touched those guns.

Adam Lanza’s mom not keeping her guns secured from her son is deplorable.

I’ve had my nose broken, it’s a pretty good wound. Also, you parents remember how hard your toddler had to fall to cut the back of their head. It’s a hard fall, and usually on the edge of a coffee table to produce a cut. Z had no corner to cut his head, which makes me think there must have been some small sharp rocks in the grass or on the sidewalk. It’s a bit harder of a collision than some of you are giving credit.

Kluge-stop imagining how concealed carry works. You’re spreading horrible misinformation with no basis for any of it. How many people did you say you know that carry? I’ve lived in Idaho or Nevada my whole life, I wouldn’t attempt to explain the nuances of subway systems because I don’t have much experience with them, so any attempt would be foolish.

I think the character of both people should be relevant. Seems it might show what they might be capable of.
