Flunking Out - How to transfer?

OK, I’ll be brave and put this out there for suggestions. Situation: flunking physics/calc at military academy. Very good HS grades and SATS, just not cutting it here. It is certainly not parties!

Go see your instructor(s) and arrange to get some extra tutoring in these subjects so that you have a better chance of making it through the semester intact.

Then, consider your options. Would you like to stay there if you can overcome this academic problem, or are you certain that you are at the wrong institution of higher learning? If you decide that you really want to transfer, you have to do the same things as everyone else. You need to put together your list of possible transfer-to schools (you might start with the other places you applied to the first time around) and then you have to contact the transfer admissions office at each of those schools to begin the application process.

Wishing you all the best.

Stating the obvious, competitive colleges are not keen on students with poor GPAs, even if they admitted them from HS. Most will not give credit for C- or lower, some even no Cs. Sometimes you can start from scratch, or go to community college and then transfer again. It becomes a journey. I am trying to get some practical info on here for those who are frantic.

Those coming out of military academies tend to be treated somewhat kinder as it is assumed that not everyone can thrive in those circumstances so, in my experience, students have been accepted at orginal HS accepted colleges with a handful of credits. Others have gone to their local community colleges to show that they can do well and then transfer a 3rd time. It is painful and long. For those that wait until their 2nd or 3rd year, they may find that it takes 6 years to graduate. Sometimes, gutting it out at original school works. Sometimes, after getting through all the required courses and getting into your major, the light dawns.

It is a long process.
