Focus/Confidence Issues...

I’m currently a sophomore on winter break and need to review material for Orgo II.

Problem is, I did horribly in Orgo I (C+…so I can say goodbye to med school immediately after college. I’d have to get a masters or work as a lab tech for a year or two). I know it wasn’t an issue of slacking off, cuz I worked day and night for that course. Now I can’t concentrate and often feel depressed and unsure every time I look at the textbook. Three hours of review/studying ends up being more like one hour of productivity since I zone out and start freaking out about my future.

Should I see a counselor? Cuz this is really messing with me and I don’t know what else to do. I hate feeling sorry for myself all the time.

try and find a group to study with for Orgo II. You can work through the tough parts together, and you will have some people to explain things to you.

I don’t think the C+ means that you have no chance for med school, but I don’t know too much about that.

C+ does not necessarily rule out med school. A doctor I worked with last summer who is absolutely brilliant and a wonderful clinician got a C or a C+ in his first orgo class.

The fact that you are letting school work bring you to the peak of depression is a bit disconcerting. Relax.

I did too… but I’m not brilliant…

Thanks for the encouragement guys, but my greatest fear is letting myself and parents down cuz a college education isnt cheap and if I end up a loser post-college and not using my degree, I’m gonna be devastated.

I do need to relax, but my experience with orgo was truely traumatic and its been hard moving past that.

Perhaps if you retake the class, can you get the grade removed/ replaced by your new one? Definitely talk to someone in your school’s academic help center - they are there to calm you down and help you get back on track :)
