Focuses of various architecture schools

I am a rising junior in hs (Va) in the process of looking into various colleges. I may pursue a degree in architecture (maybe landscape?). In your opinions what are the focuses of the schools listed below? They are the ones that a. my folks could afford and b. that I think may not be too much of a stretch for me to get into with my grades. (I would love Cornell or Pratt, but…) I guess what I am trying to figure out is do they each have kind of a slant on their approach? For example, I read that UVA emphasizes hand drawing and modeling (which I like by the way) Anyway here is the list (not in any preferential order really)

Virginia Tech

Penn State

UGA

UVA

Clemson

I am still trying to decide if I would be better off to get a BA and then do the M.Arch or the 5 year route in Architecture. Any thoughts on that topic would be great, too. I posted a thread on the long-running “Architecture” thread by jrock with some other questions, but unfortunately didn’t get any replies. Maybe I will have better luck with my own thread! Thanks!

Oh and one more…big dream here due to its cost, but a DIII school where I could possibly swim (I know the workload would be tough in architecture, but I would really like to be able to do it)

Carnegie Mellon

you should still aim for the schools you might not be able to afford because they may be able to offer you financial aid.

i don’t know much about the schools you mentioned except for carnegie mellon, which i suppose emphasizes more on technicality but since architecture schools change all the time, i should not assume.

you can also go to wikipedia to find more about the schools but the best way is to visit the schools.

personally I think the b.arch is a better route if you are serious about architecture because it will take you far less time and it will save you a lot more money. Plus, you can also go onto grad school and have a focus that can either compliment your b.arch or be something different.
