Foggy Bottom/Georgetown--Washington DC hotels

Anyone recommend a good–mid price hotel in this location.

I’ve been in the Melrose, it is lovely, but the rate is a little to high mid week.

Anyone heard of:
Hotel Madera,
Fairmont, St. James Suites, Geo Wash Inn.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. I would like to book soon.
Thanks

I have stayed at the Fairmont many times - it’s o.k., not overly exciting but a decent enough hotel…

We stayed at Georgetown Suites a couple of years ago while on college trips and had a very nice time. We were able to walk to GWU and Georgetown, as well as the White House.

You arent’ constrained by the immediate area- as Foggybottom has a metro stop reight there. So, you can stay slightly outside the area and ride the metro. Can save some $$.

We visited Washington last summer while dropping S off at a summer program at Georgetown. We stayed at the Watergate. It was conveniently located…we walked to both M street and later to the Kennedy Center. It has a lovely restaurant. Newt Gingrich was at the next table. I said to DH “That’s what we get for staying in a Republican stronghold”…

We loved The River Inn two years ago. We had a suite: one bedroom with two double beds, a foldout bed in the living room, a small dining room and a small kitchen, and (I think) just one bath. The price was $165, and it was just down the street from the Watergate and a few blocks from GW University. We walked over to Georgetown a few times, and that wasn’t far either.

Dupont Circle has more hotel choices and a livelier evening atmosphere with open great places to eat…and a good metro stop. We always stay there and get on the metro to do Georgetown and the Mall. Quikbook dot come is my favorite DC discounter for hotels in good locations usually with cancellation an option.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I found a place between Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle. Or so it seems with the little map provided.

We will be there a couple of days before the start of Cherry Blossom Festival.
Hoepfully we can see a few blossoms!!

Park Service estimate is peak blossoms on April 3rd…

We stayed at the George Washington Inn–surprisingly nice. We had a lovely suite (old fashioned but very nice,) and the location was great

One Washington Circle is one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed at. They have a $99 internet special and are nearly across from the Foggy Bottom campus. Very convenient location and nice suite-type rooms. I thought it was a huge bargain.

I stayed at Residence Inn Dupont Circle and it was decent

One Washington Circle looked great online, but they were booked for the time that I wanted.

I will file them away for another trip. One that I plan a little further in advance.

We stayed at the Doubletree Guest Suites last August and got a Hilton Honors upgrade to a high floor suite with a fully equipped kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay - price was reasonable, the location was great, staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and comfortable (albeit slightly in need of minor repairs), and you really get the feel of being in a neighborhood. It’s convenient to both the Mall and Georgetown, and near the Metro stop. One day we found a farmer’s market at the end of the street - not just great fruits and vegetables, but also a french bakery stand, meats, eggs, etc. I was ready to move in!

We stay at the L’Enfant Plaza, down the street from the Smithsonian. It has a metro stop on the ground floor, so it’s really convenient in getting to everything. If you want to do any sightseeing, it’s great. If you want to be able to walk to GW or G’town, it’s probably not the best choice.

If traveling as a group of three or more, I’d recommend the Washington Suites…25th & Pennsylvania, both less expensive and more convenient than the Georgetown Suites.

We were doing a strange in-and-out-several-times trip (long story) and spent our final night at the Hotel Washington…17th St. or so? “Faded glory” might well describe it…a formerly elegant hotel now on the down side but the rooftop dining was nice, specifically the post-dawn sun casting all the official Washington buildings in a rosy glow before we dropped D off for the first day of work for her internship was a very dramatic extended moment in time.

A good rec that I took from Driver, iirc.

We also stayed one extravagant night at the Hay-Adams, by accident…I’d meant to book a room at the Willard (see origin of the term “lobbyist”) at the same price but had a brain cramp and mixed them up. I have cast the I Ching and read the Tarot and, God willing, I suspect we’ll be able to correct that error sometime in the next few years if D continues on her current trajectory.

Another decent Hotel is the Latham Hotel. It is perfectly located on M Street and is home to Washington DC’s top restaurant, Citronelle.
