I live in Texas and was initially planning on doing a 2+2 program from my community college for mechanical engineering.
However, although it makes everything simple because it guarantees my admission to several decent schools in
Texas, it also means that I will earn an associates degree after two years. Meaning that I will lose my ability to renew one of my grants, which was like $2500.00 at community college and $8000 at university

Do you want to major in Mechanical Engineering after community college?

yes

You need to decide: Could you transfer to the ME department of the school that you like without A.S. degree?

Apparently I guarantee admission to UTSA with a super low gpa of 2.0
As of now I’m like 3.7. But apparently that is the only school with an articulation agreement with my community college.

If I wanted to go to UT, TAMU, Texas Tech, or any other schools, I would have to follow their transfer plan.

So what I understand is… Follow this course guide (2+2) all your courses will transfer to UTSA. Meaning that I earned an associates.

I could instead follow UT’s transfer plan, NOT get an associates, and add more flexibility to the schools I would like to attend. Doing this would ensure that I could renew that grant for $8000/year.

Seems like the 2+2 thing is a knife with two blades. Ensures all my credits transfer, but I lose that generous grant.

What do you think?

That’s an odd grant that ends if you get an associates degree, but continues to cover the rest of a bachelor’s degree if you do not get an associates degree.
