But a funny thing happened from those generations to now. Health-conscious students raised on restaurant food are being plied with quinoa bowls and gourmet coffees prepared by cafeteria chefs and baristas. Quality not being enough, schools are taking things further, offering Starbucks-style apps for students to order ahead, grab-and-go gourmet meals to reheat in rooms, and cafeteria food delivered right to dorms.

Sadly ironic that this article comes on the heels of an NPR piece about 1/3 of college students being food-insecure. This is definitely an example of the widening chasm between the rich and poor in the US today.

When I first heard of similar food delivery services in Metro Boston (such as Insomnia Cookies and GoPuff), my initial thought was this was a stoner’s dream come true!

It’s sad these kids will never have that eating-ramen-noodles-for-a-week experience most of us had. That is, until they graduate and try to find a place to live while paying off crippling college debt.

I can’t imagine using such a service in addition to paying for a meal plan, but I guess I’m the odd man out.
