If folks are fond of Delis, Katz Delicatessen in NYC offers various items shipped at no extra charge anywhere in US for totals >$100. No extra charge for shipping to HI or anywhere else in US. When we ordered the blue ice was still frozen when the box arrived and we were able to re-use the box and blue-ice to take items to MN. Prices are not crazy, considering postage is included and there are an assortment of packages to choose among.
Food preferences vary tremendously from one person to another, so it’s difficult to generalize. If the person you are buying the gift for loves Claxton fruitcakes, that could be a great gift. However, for the majority of people, I expect a fruitcake gift would not be well received. It’s a similar idea for gift certificates to a particular restaurant.
I personally prefer to ask people what they want as gifts. It’s easier for me, and the gift is usually more positively received by the recipient. There is still an element of surprise, as the recipient doesn’t know which item I’ll choose, or if I’ll modify or get a variation in some way.

We love Claxton fruitcakes at our house.
I sent one cherry republic gift and plan on sending more tomorrow.

I picked out a breakfast gift basket and added hot chocolate.
The gift shipped the next day. I also messed up, was sending a gift where the recipient was going to be gone. I emailed customer service and got a response in a couple hours that it had been cancelled per my request. So I’m going to give Cherry Republic an A+

I might have mentioned this above but one thing I liked about Cherry Republic (besides knowing their products are yum) is that one if the choices to add on is doggie biscuits - so if there is a beloved dog at the recipient house you can gift them too!
For this particular gift I started the thread for I ended up getting a Wolfermans gift “basket”

Things I have had that I know ship are Knudson’s caramels, Kentucky Kernel Pecans, Cretor’s popcorn, and Yonah Schimmel knishes. The knishes were through Goldbelly.
This Wolferman’s gift is a bit pricey ($49.99) for simple breakfast foods, even with free shipping. But it seemed a good choice for my elderly old dad (many allergies) and his wife, no refrigeration needed. Happy to say that after havin some for breakfast he called me with joyful thanks.
