Probably could have posted this in another holiday thread but this topic tends to get a lot of hits…
Any newly discovered or tried and true favorite food gifts to send for the holidays? Some are quite pricey but one I would like to send I’ll need to be in the $50-75 range.
I’ll check Costco online to see if there is still time to send something. But would welcome other ideas and I’m sure someone else here might benefit too!
I’ll offer one idea up for people - it’s local here and won’t work for who I need to order from but if you have someone who loves pickled products, coney dogs, and M.A.S.H. it makes a good gift. Also notice they have some packages aimed at PICKELBALL people!!!
Can anyone suggest where to buy good quality meat as a gift? I ordered a nice selection of pork and beef from Snake River Farms last year that got rave reviews. However, when I ordered some of the same items for us two of the steaks had gristle. I don’t expect that at their prices.
If you’re willing to spend at least $100, “free” shipping via Katz deli in NYC to anywhere in the US. We have bought a box and our PT has purchased several. Even shipped to HI, everything arrives as promised and if there’s a problem, they will make any adjustment or re-ship the item(s). Just another thought, but above your price point. We stopped the Costco & other fruit baskets because people were receiving tiny fruit and some of it was not in great condition.
Yeah, not gonna increase the price. And did check at Costco and I also wasn’t thrilled with the choices. Wolferman’s was a first thought and it may be the best one!
We have sent my inlaws items from this farm. Dan O’Brien is a well known rancher who runs a buffalo business based on traditional sustainability practices, wrote some books about it too. The meat comes with some of the best recipes as well.
Ah I didn’t know that - I had played with an order earlier that wasn’t a gift box (cause I wanted to include doggie biscuits) and Shillong was estimated at $20 - it will be going to Lansing!
I love the olive oils and vinegars from Beyond the Olive in Pasadena. Locally harvested olives are pressed into blended and single varietal olive oils. They also sell white and dark balsamic vinegars with and without flavorings. Plus they also have tapenades, sauces, dipping oils, olives, jams and other condiments. Some gift boxes include a loaf of fresh sourdough bread.
One year their holiday gift box included oil, vinegar,a sourdough loaf and 2 cheese wedges from Beehive Cheese in SLC. (Friends really loved that one.)
My go-to gift is bottle of Pasadena blend olive oil and a bottle of white peach balsamic vinegar sent in a wooden crate.
I also like to send a bit of holiday heat–green chile and red chile pistachios from New Mexico. from The Hatch Chile Store in Hatch, NM.
I also send homesick former Land of Enchantment resident cases of red and green chile sauces and salsas. Lots of places to get those. D1 likes salsa from Cervantes, but Monroe’s is good too. Duran’s is also excellent, but their sauces and salsa are HOT. D1 always asks for gift sets of Duran’s chiles sauces for her birthday. (And true story–her husband bought her wedding ring at Duran’s Pharmacy on Central Avenue.)
I saw one of the baskets, I can add things to it. I’m think the shipping is included with the add ons. I didn’t go to check out thought but that’s what it looked like.
For $20 you could stop at the store in Ann Arbor and drive it to Lansing! That’s insane!
