That sounds tough. I hope it goes well for her (and you as well!).
Thanksâwe are cautiously optimistic.
I have also read that stool softener and miralax can really help, especially when taking narcotic painkillers, which tend to be constipating. Iâve read that you should take them in advance so it prevents the problem for occurringâget the guidance from medical team.
You can message your AirBnB host to ask about kitchen supplies. Sometimes you can get an indication of how well it is stocked from the reviews, too.
I suggested this to ds. He asked the PA who said that was not a bad idea.
Now, whether he chooses to do that, I cannot control.
D will bring a blender if the rental doesnât have one as she will be on liquids only for awhile.
If thereâs a Goodwill nearby, that might be worth checking for any major missing kitchen supplies. Then they can be left behind.
Since your sonâs place is only 20 minutes away, could you raid his kitchen for things you need. My son who doesnât even cook has a decently stocked kitchen I could make do with.
My nephew has a place about 10-20 minutes from the rental we are thinking of taking that should have anything we may be short of. Thereâs also a Ralphâs supermarket very near the rental and a bunch of restaurants. Since D will mostly be on liquids, we are mostly going to have to have food for ourselves. It has a microwave so we can reheat easily. The super host answered in 3 minutes that the rental has a blender as well.
We were going to stay for a month but D said sheâd prefer we only stay about 2 weeks as she doesnât think sheâd enjoy our hovering too long. (Haha!). If she still needs some TLC, she can stay in the 3rd bedroom of nephewâs house and theyâll keep an eye on her before she goes back to the house she lives in thatâs further away. Even in the house she lives in, there are others living there (but they all mostly run their own lives). Itâs a fairly long (about 1+ hour) drive from the rental back to her home in Fontana. Sheâs very close to nephew (her cousin), and his GF, who happens to be a resident at UCLA in family medicine.
We saw this commercial the first or second night we were here!
@Hoggirl did your sonâs surgery take place and howâs he doing??? And how are you doing being part of team caretaker?!
His surgery was Tuesday. He had PT both Thursday and Friday. Things seem to be going well. Itâs mentally tough. I just hope it was successful.
HEB is a nice grocery store! The Airbnb has worked well, but cooking supplies are limited, so we have mostly done pre-prepared foods. I did make tacos. And chocolate-covered strawberries for Valentineâs Day.
We are planning on leaving Wednesday morning. Iâd prefer staying longer, but I think ds is ready to be back in his own space. Dh wants/needs to get back for work. It makes me hugely nervous because there are soooo many stairs where ds lives, and heâll likely be alone. The roommate travels for work all the time. He is still on crutches and non-weight-bearing. We went to his place today, and he navigated them slowly but well. He was on crutches before the surgery for nearly a month, so heâs pretty adept at using them. However, the being locked straight in the immobilizer makes it a little more difficult.
We just never stop worrying, do we?
Thank you for thinking of us and asking about him
Edit: He only needed pain pills for the first two days. Heâs only doing Advil now.
