Somebody posted in another thread about tofu - thinking about tofu makes my stomach churn; to eat it, makes me gag! The slimy sensation of it going down my throat, is akin to, well, to be polite - post nasal drip! And don’t get me started on popcorn - ugh! the smell of it cooking, makes me heave., LOL!
Your turn. What ‘triggers’ your gastric or olfactory reflexes?
Polyurethane. I can smell it a mile away. It gives me a piercing headache. This was not good when we built our house since DH worked on finishing all the trim after we’d moved in. Yikes.
I can’t stand the smell of cooked artichokes. My husband’s family loves to make stuffed artichokes Italian style for the holidays and I hate the smell.
I am not a fan of the smell of coffee (I know the whole world loves coffee and the smell). I never drink it or even eat food flavored with coffee (ice cream, tiramisu)
Several years ago a co-worker heated up brussel sprouts in our break-room microwave. I like roasted brussel sprouts, but I had to leave the office for a while because the smell was overpowering. We used Febreze to try to neutralize it. She felt bad about it while I felt very nauseous.
I felt sooooo bad but we had a student who was from West Africa (can’t remember which country) and we were having lunch at the same time. He heated up something in the microwave that just about made me lose it right there. I quickly closed up my lunch and pretty much ran out of the break room. I don’t think he “got it”, I hope not. But I had to make sure I never shared lunch break with him again.
Canned peas - yuck! Those and liver were the two foods I just couldn’t stand as a chIld. I never buy or eat them now that I have a choice. I can tolerate a small amount of frozen peas in a stew, curry, or pot pie. Fresh peas just picked in a home garden are great (even raw). I also can’t stand the smell of marijuana; makes me nauseous.
Not much bothers me but I had a weird experience last year. I love avocado so I ordered avocado toast in a cafe for breakfast. Two bites into it suddenly the texture made me feel like gagging and I couldn’t stomach another bite.
I haven’t had avocado since, and don’t know what brought on the aversion.
