Football prospect chooses OSU over Michigan . . . "for the academics"????

Plymouth (MI) offensive lineman Michael Jordan (no, not THAT Michael Jordan), listed by Rivals.com as a 2016 4-star recruit and the 4th best prospect in his class the state of Michigan, verbally committed to Ohio State today, choosing tOSU over Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame, among others. The reason he chose Ohio State? “I committed there because of academics,” Jordan told the Detroit Fee Press.

COMMENT: Anyone that clueless belongs at Ohio State.

Seriously, he said OSU has both his major, international business, and his minor, Chinese. “At Michigan, they didn’t have my minor,” Jordan said.

Seriously? This kid wasn’t bright enough to figure out that Michigan has “one of the largest and most established Chinese language programs in North America” (according to the school’s website)? Or that you CAN minor in Chinese at Michigan, only they’ll call it the “Asian Languages and Culture Academic Minor”? It requires as a prerequisite 2 years or 4th-term proficiency in an Asian language (e.g., Chinese), and to fulfill the minor, two 300-level courses in that same Asian language (Chinese), plus two courses on the culture associated with the language studied (China), at least one of which must be at the 300 level. But if this kid didn’t have the wherewithal to figure out you can do that at Michigan, I doubt he has the academic chops to succeed in a very tough program at Ross, plus minor in Chinese, plus play football. So maybe he’s better off at tOSU.

But at Michigan, you can’t get into Ross just because you play football…

Agreed with GoBlue81. The recruit probably knew he would not get into Ross. OSU makes better sense academically.

@GoBlue81 and @Alexandre

Isn’t Michigan Econ > Ohio State Business?

From what I have heard, top undergrad econ programs are better than normal undergrad business schools. I might be wrong, however.

“The reason he chose Ohio State? “I committed there because of academics,” Jordan told the Detroit Fee Press.”

Some of the posters on this thread think that the reason cited is spurious. Note that he didn’t modify the word “academics” with a word like “strong”. He merely said “academics”…he could as easily mean academics which offer a sufficiently low hurdle that he can both “play school” and play football. Besides, when has any recruit ever NOT said this? All matriculating athletes in all sports offer this bromide no matter where they go and it is always worth a smile because they clearly have already been “coached up” to represent their new school in a positive light…has about as much meaning as politicians kissing babies during political campaigns.
