For an engineering major, is AP Chem more valuable than AP English Literature?

To be specific, my intended major is Electrical Engineering. I will be taking Bio and Physics B (though probably self-studying E&M) next year, and I’ve already taken AP English Language.

Next year, I cannot fit both AP Chem and AP English into my schedule, so one will have to go. Which one should I take?

Edit: I know in the grand scheme of things, this might not really matter at all. But I’ve still got to make the choice, and I’m not sure on what else I should base it. I’m not particularly fond of either subject, but I don’t think I’d strongly dislike either of the two.

I think AP Chem could only help in making you appear like a stronger candidate for engineering programs. What score did you get on the AP Lang exam? If you got a 4 or 5, you’ll probably be able to pass out of your future college’s “basic English comp” requirement anyway, so taking AP English Lit probably won’t help you at all.

I think you should do AP Chem instead of lit… Chem is a science, whereas Lit is not related to your major at all. However, are you not required to take 4 years of english?

I took the Lang exam this year, but I’m fairly confident I got a 5. The practice exams given by our teacher (which were not official College Board exams) were much more difficult. We also practiced many essays, so a 5 is looking very possible.

I would still have an English class, but it would not be at an AP level. I’d have to choose between British Literature or Technical Reading & Writing.

Also, while I am leaning toward taking Chemistry, I’ve always got the option of simply taking the Lit exam without the class. I’m sure I can get at least a 4 with a little preparation. After all, there’s not much material to study.

Each school is different in what AP credit it accepts. AP Chemistry may help, and AP English Literature may help, for an Electrical Engineering major.

For an engineering major, AP Physics B will be useless for subject credit. Unless you have had no high school physics at all, you may want to take both AP Chemistry and AP English Literature and not take AP Physics B. Or, if AP Physics C is available, take that instead of AP Physics B.
