For Anybody Who's Been To Spop

Did you feel like some of the stuff they made you do was really gay?

Actually, I kind of got annoyed with the “friendship” games we played in our dorms. It seemed very, I don’t know, un-college like. :/

“gay” not really…at least when I went last year.

I didn’t stay up all night and missed some events though. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, they have some control of you in SPOP but your in college.

It sort of depended on your mindset… The people still clinging to their high school mindset had a hard time letting loose and getting involved, therefore everything seemed stupid to them, so they didn’t talk to people, and they went to bed early, and they didn’t really have a good time… everyone else let loose, goofed around, and just had a good time cause no one was really judging them (except the high schoolers i described above).
and i don’t remember any “friendship” games…they did some exercises to get everyone on the same page…gay?..however you choose to see it…seemed to me that more people enjoyed it than thought it was gay

Man I just want to register for my classes…

Actually, I had stopped clinging to high school years ago. This seemed MORE like high school then my senior year did; definitely not the college life I had hoped for. Believe me, I did talk to people, but maybe it’s just that I’m too mature for the people that were in my dorm, because I felt that many (not all) of the games we did were a bit childish…things that we’d do for HS freshman orientation.

you’re not forced to play any games or participate in the activities. You have the choice to sit out, but it seemed like only a select few did.

SPOP isn’t supposed to imitate how the college life is like. it’s just an introduction to the campus and for you to get a feel of what the place is like. It’s a big campus so there’s a lot of different things that you can do and maybe SPOP’s way of doing things wasn’t in your taste. it’s really up to you on how you want to orientation to be since you have a decent amount of freedom to have a good time.

Most of the activities at SPOP are not even high schoolish…they are at an even lower level. They’re stupid. BUT that’s not that point. If you let loose and stop caring about how stupid you might look or how dumb you think something might be, you will enjoy yourself. Everyone else is in the same position. It is only boring if you stand there quietly criticizing every single thing.

Personally I think the point of it all was to become more comfortable with meeting new people and to become more outgoing and to become open to try anything…THAT is the college experience.

But don’t you worry. SPOP is nothing like college. After freshman year people will be less friendly and it won’t be as easy as it was during SPOP to talk to random people. If you’re the type who only has fun drinking and partying…you will find that, too. If you’re the type that likes to be less social, you can have that, too…etc. SPOP was just a friendly introduction. Kinda like the first day of class where you have to play those stupid ice breakers.

Well put PoorCookie! Thats the point I was trying make

do you crumble or fold?
