For Cornell University -Arts and Sciences -Blacks compete in thier own pool

Do African Americans compete in their own pool?

No.

I though this was a ■■■■■, but looking at some of your other posts, I don’t think it is. What prompted you to ask this question?

If Cornell’s percentages of African Americans has remained relatively constant over time, I would say, likely YES. Please read the following essay. About 2/3 down, the dean discusses Category Admissions .

http://www.reed.edu/apply/news_and_articles/admission_messages.html</a>

What does this mean practically? Soft quotas/goals practiced by some private colleges such as Cornell. Sub groups (such as an ethnic minority or athlete or a talent subgroup (eg. dancer, actor, top math kids, etc)) are allocated set aside slots unofficially.

First, I am unclear on the question. Are you asking with respect to admissions or as students attending Cornell?

With regard to admissions, certainly the admissions office is building a class, and part of that is diversity across many groups, not just blacks. To the extend that the college is building a diverse class, all students may be “in their own pool” of one sort or another.

Oh gosh. Ignore my post…I plead exhaustion from trying to get ready for DD’s high school graduation, but I thought you were asking about swimming pools, and swim teams. Which is why I was so shocked. What a goof I am. hides under a rock

Made my day . That was funny. lol @mdcmom

Too bad the op did not mean swimming pools-neither question makes any sense but asking about swimming would be more benign.

Black students are 12% of SAT takers and 5% or 6% of first year students at Cornell. As a whole, Black students are 8% of Ivy League students compared with being 14% of the enrollment at public colleges.

Black students at Cornell have a 90% graduation rate. White students across America have a 60% graduation rate.

Cornell has high standards for admission for every student and the Black students at Cornell would do well at any Ivy League college.
