What makes UChicago so kickarse? How is the Chicago life? What are some common/ fun things for students to do besides studying?

If you happen to be from New Jersey…tell me if you like Chicago better than the Garden State.

Chicago is definitely better than Jersey. Are you even kidding me.

What makes Chicago so kickarse for me is the ability to be around people who respect who I am. If you met me on the street, you’d never take me for a misfit in any way, but I realized that I like not only being in an academic/nerdy environment, but also one where people are connected to each other and not about to look down on each other and form levels of hierarchy, as in high school. Socially, you’ll find a lot of garden-variety nerds here, but you’ll also find people who would have never been called nerds in high school yet have occasional nerd relapses.

Our party scene is not as gargantuan as it is at other colleges, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have them. Frat parties are always an option, though you’ll probably tire of them pretty fast, but dorm and apartment parties have potential. Doc Films has incredible movies on the weekend-- everything from Singin’ in the Rain to Happy Feet. You can also sit in the lounge watch House and Arrested Development and order from Giordano. You can also explore the city-- there are tons of cheap food options in the city of Chicago, as well as concerts, etc.

This may seem like a stupid question, but does the university offer HBO?

Uh, the University doesn’t technically offer any cable or TV (though most houses have both–sometimes paid for in part by students).
