For Essays, is everything open game?

It will be in a long time for me, but I was curious on if there are boundaries for what to write?

I was thinking about writing about being an Identical Twin, given the fact is would be unique and stick in their minds.

What do you think?

Well, you have to answer the question if you want to be accepted obviously. Other than being decent and respectful toward others, I’d say have at it! Be creative; don’t be too risky.

Ok, I understand! I will be creative, what do you think about me writing about me being an Identical Twin?

It would depend. If you just wrote about what it was like being an identical twin, it might not be too great; if you wrote a really funny and unique essay, then it could be great.

That goes for pretty much any essay topic; anything can be great (with some exceptions)…it all depends on how you go about writing it.

Oh the things I can write! I will be sure to make mine great, thanks!

You can write about essentially anything as long as you can make it meaningful and it answers the prompt.

There are boundaries of propriety, taste, TMI, cliché…

Other than that it is wide open. Try to be insightful.

Remember, this isn’t just another essay for your teachers. Adcoms are looking for certain attributes and skills they know they need you to have. It’s your college app, make it relevant.

Middle school students have not yet had the relevant experiences they need to discuss, so for them to be picking essay topics is quite ridiculous. sigh.

If you’re in middle school as the poster above me says, rest assured that what you think that you are going to write about now is certainly not what you will end up writing about, most likely. I didn’t think too much about essays until the end of junior year, even, and I settled on probably the fourth or fifth different topic to cross my mind. You’ll get there when you get there, and when you write the full essay, you’ll know what’s right.

If you’re in middle school, I highly recommend you stay off this site until the end of Freshman or Sophomore year. It’ll stress you out more than it will help you at this point. And what you decide to write about now, you’ll most certainly not write about in 4+ years from now.
Find a passion in high school and write about it!

The boundaries really depend on HOW YOU write it. Anything can become a good essay when it’s worded well, however there are obvious things not to do like swearing, sounding uneducated, or making yourself look like a bad person, etc. Identical twin should be a completely reasonable topic to write on, just make sure that it’s actually something you want to write about and can bring lots of meaning or voice into.

Trust me when I say that you will have a variety of topics to write about because you will have amazing experiences in high school! I personally know that my life now is significantly different than I would have imagined in terms of all of the opportunities that I have had to try new things. You’ll have plenty of stuff to write about in a few years, I promise (even though it may not seem like it)

*different than I imagined in middle school :stuck_out_tongue:
