For folks who have taken the course English Lit Med-1650s: A question?

<p>Hi i am an incoming freshman at ucsb and i just registered for the upper division class Engl 101 Literature Medieval to 1650s and I was wondering whether it was wise to enroll in this course without having taken any of the lower division classes beforehand? for those of you who have taken this course how difficult is the workload and should i drop it? would the work become too overwhelming in conjunction with my other classes? i would appreciate your thoughts on the subject</p>

<p>(my other classes are fem studies 20 , pop songs and reality, anthro 2 and poli sci 12)</p>

<p>I thought as an underclassman you’re not allowed to enroll in upper division courses (100+), thats what my advisor at orientation told me.</p>

<p>That is more of a guideline than actual rule. It is possible to enroll in upper division courses if one feels confident about his or her academic abilities. In fact, most bio majors enroll in chem 109 series in their second year even though its an upper division course. I really recommend taking the lower level courses first in the fall quarter in order to get use to the higher expectations in college before going for the upper division classes in winter or spring quarter.</p>

<p>I’m a freshman of the incoming fall, too. I did FSSP and here is some of my adivce.
Don’t be intimidated by upperdivision classes. But I saw just now you’re also taking three other classes plus a freshman seminar, which is a bit too much if you’re taking Enlgish 101 as well for your first quarter in UCSB. It’s definitely doable, but you might wanna get to know the campus and make some new friends at first in fall. You don’t really need to push it too hard at the beginning of college life.</p>
