I would say you’re a shoe-in but your SAT CR score is low for GA Tech. However, the composite score is great. In addition, your ACT is good. You’ll probably be a match for GA Tech and easy for Penn State.

Essay: average, Rec: best

Thanks jdschooled5, I know I can not increase CR. Can you suggest me any other match school for mechanical engineering?

@Brian11507 Try UC Berkeley, CalTech, U Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern are in top 20 for mechanical engineering. They seem to be matches for you, even with the relatively low CR score. You never know what could happen with admissions. Good luck!

Cal tech and northwestern are not matches in the slightest nor would be Berkeley since I’m assuming you’re oos.

Thanks jdschooled5. Thanks jvaport12. Yes I am oos for Berkley.

What’s your parents’ budget? If you haven’t discussed this, run the NPC on Georgia Tech and Penn State, plus a private college (Rose Hulman? Olin?)

For Penn State, apply on September 1st. Plan to apply to Schreyer but competition from Engineering students is fierce.
Both Gtech (reach for everyone) and Penn State (safety for you if you apply on Sept 1st, less so the closer you apply to November 1st) will cost 45K with no financial aid if you’re OOS at either one.

No school can be seen as a safety unless you can afford it. Have the “money talk” with your parents now. It’s much better than getting into a college and learning that your parents won’t be able to afford it or won’t pay for it even if they could. That happens in March or April, every year, and it’s heart-breaking.

With these credentials, you automatically qualify for the school of engineering at UAlabama (brand new facilities), honors college, honors dorm, priority registration, and a full tuition scholarship. Apply as soon as the app is online. (You can seek out LucytheLakie, a poster whose son was instate for Penn State but is now attending UAlabama).

One issue you’ll encounter is that you’ll be one in 100,000 Asian students with perfect math/science scores, all-science subject tests, excellent course rigor, and run-off-the-mill excellent EC’s (by which I mean they’re excellent overall but don’t allow you to stand out and are not on par for the top engineering programs).

It’s a pleasure to hear of a student who doesn’t plan on retaking a perfectly good SAT/ACT score. Congratulations!
However… Can you take a non-science subject test in June? It’d help in distinguishing your profile.

Thanks MYOS1634. Really very useful details. Thanks
