Hey guys,

My goal is med school. I have loaded up on many AP math and science classes in high school, but desire to broaden my horizons in college. Though I will still fulfill med school pre requisites, I am vacillating between Modern Middle Eastern Studies and Statistics as a major while applying to top-tier schools e.g. Harvard, Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore.

I am very interested in the Mid East, for it is a hotspot in the world right now and will be in the years to come and I would love to learn about Middle Eastern history, religion, politics, economics and the various ethnic issues in the regions. However, I see how applicable and useful statistics is in many different fields after taking AP Statistics.

Middle Eastern seems to be the more exotic choice, yet on the other hand, statistics will give me a strong foundation in quantitative skills and I would be able to use my knowledge of statistics in medicine. So my question, which major will serve me best, and what major do you think medical schools would prefer?
