For Moms Only -Need advice

Hi -you don’t remember me ? I have 4 kids, 19-31 . Have posted a lot about my D 19 …ring any bells ? The urinary problem has been mildly annoying ,but manageable . What is different now is that I am unable to stop a flow when urinating . I know all about Kegels but lately ,nothing happens . I spoke with a nurse tonight at the hospital where I volunteer ( best perk of being a volunteer is the access to medical people ) and she said I might have some sort of infection/ intestinal that may be causing this problem . Hope it is nothing major !

have you recently started any new meds? I was on neurontin briefly and it caused a sort of leak y issue that resolved when I stopped it.

I have no advice but wish you the best of luck.

And here I was ,finally getting used to the empty nest , feeling pretty good . I am appalled with my poor body function !

fauxmaven- I would ask for an MRI. You’ll want to make sure that your problem isn’t caused by something else, like a vertebra pressing on your spinal cord or a tumor. Chances are good that it’s something minor, but when these kinds of things crop up at our age, it’s time for a thorough check-up, including imaging tests.

I went to doctor today and let’s just say I am the queen of prolapse ! Surgery is definitely in my future . I have all 3 of the celes-cysto, urethro and recto . 4 kids and a 9 lb 3 oz boy with a square 99% head have all worked wonders in my body . I go for URODYNAMIC testing next week .

Fauxmaven - hugs. I’m sure you aren’t looking forward to surgery but it will be good to get it fixed. Glad you went in and saw your doctor. It’s funny how long we can put up with things before they get really bad. I did that recently (put up with a lot of seeming unrelated, non-urgent symptoms for several years) and when the surgeon told me I needed surgery my first thought was ‘wow, it all makes sense now.’

I was going to post that it sounded like Pelvic Prolapse. Glad you found out what it is and are on the way to having it “solved”.

Bless your heart, faux. You should have that big boy with the square head come home and take care of you while you recuperate. Either him or the husband that started it all. Just joking! Seriously, wishing you a quick and uneventful recovery.

Actually Big Headed Boy is coming home for Spring break , and I plan to have the surgery at the beginning of the break ,so he can wait on me hand and foot ! The silver lining here is NO LIFTING and NO LAUNDRY for 6 weeks !!

Best of luck fauxmaven! Hope you will have a speedy recovery when you have the surgery.

fauxmaven, I started reading this post as I suspect I could be on that path one day … my kids are just a few years younger than your herd. I also had big headed wonders, but after trying to get them out through door one, they ended up exiting out the automatic garage door (C-section), but my insides still haven’t been the same since, especially with urinary incontinence. It’s not terrible, however, I still worry when I sneeze or have an extra good laugh in public, and if I run more than 5K, there better be a port-a-potty fairly close. Good luck on your surgery … I hope Big Headed Boy treats you well during your recovery. :)

^^^Too funny on the planning. My good friend planned her total hysterectomy right before Christmas break. Her college son spent his Christmas break doing all the cooking, housework, shopping, laundry. Now I know why he doesn’t come home very often!

Hugs, it’s quite common but something many women don’t talk about. I, too, suspect I’m on my way there after three boys. I’m just starting to have problems after years of the doctor asking and me truthfully saying, “no, no problems.” I guess I won’t be able to say that at my spring appointment. Do read up on robotic surgery while you are going through the paces. The documented results have been very good.

Actually my dear 19 year old D has said she will come and be with me , so big headed boy can go on his 2 week backpacking trip ,although he said he would cancel trip and come home if I wanted him to . I am always thinking about silver linings when a problem comes up ,especially with my physical self . I get to stop doing laundry and have a visit from darling daughter , so that will be nice .
